Sony’s deployed a list of launch window titles set to release on the PlayStation 4 between its 15th November arrival and the end of the year. While you may be eager to point out that the list looks quite thin, it covers retail games only, so the likes of Outlast, Blacklight: Retribution, and the recently announced Minecraft are not included. Still, there’s plenty to tuck into.
In fact, the platform holder promises that a total of 33 titles will launch on the console before the end of 2013. The lineup looks pretty solid from where we’re sitting. What are you planning to pick up alongside your system? Let us know in the comments section below.
- Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag (Ubisoft)
- Battlefield 4 (EA)
- Call of Duty: Ghosts (Activision)
- Driveclub (SCE)
- FIFA 14 (EA)
- Killzone: Shadow Fall (SCE)
- Knack (SCE)
- Just Dance 2014 (Ubisoft)
- LEGO Marvel Superheroes (Warner Bros.)
- Madden 25 (EA)
- NBA 2K14 (2K Games)
- NBA Live (EA)
- Need for Speed: Rivals (EA)
- Skylanders: Swap Force (Activision)
- Watch Dogs (Ubisoft)

It's not as stellar as the xbox one, but i expect that sony has many cards up it sleeves
@Sanquine The first thing I thought when I saw the Xbox One's list was: Vita. It sure looks great on paper, but if you hit a drought, then people start getting restless and forget all about day one. Best to spread it out. Besides, this doesn't include the DOZENS of download titles.
@Sammy Got some awesome news for you http://duuro.net/three-new-the-order-1886-screenshots-released/
New order screenshots.. One is clearly ingame gameplay
@get2sammyb Didn't Microsoft have a lot of exclusives planned for the first year, though? I didn't see that many exclusives on that thing for day one. They seem to be spreading out as well.
Both launches seem solid to me, even though I have to say the XBOX One's looks more impressive in my eyes.
Most people will think that these are the only things you can play on day one, you can also play free to play games like Planetside 2, DC Universe online, Warframe and Blacklight retribution! As well as a large number of indie titles shown today at Gamescom like Minecraft!
@moomoo True, but from what I can tell, Microsoft's already announced a large chunk of its first year offering. Sony's is very much still under wraps.
Hmmmm seems quite weak in my opinion...i will only be buying 3rd party games from this list XP Maybe knack too xD
Watchdogs is the winner. But i'm also interested in Killzone and Driveclub, it depends how much they are a step up from their last gen offerings. I'm always interested in COD and Assassins, but I could quite easily play them on PS3 instead, and I doubt I would be losing much.
Bearing in mind, 'the end of 2013' is 6 weeks after launch. I'd rather hope that Shadow Fall, Watch Dogs,Drive Club and network content will keep me busy enough for far longer than a month and a half before I start craving new distractions.
@get2sammyb
X1 will be successful enough and have enough third party support that it's not going to have a Vita like situation. A drought, probably, but it won't be a terrible one, just the normal one that every new console experiences.
Anyway, I know this is a Playstation dedicated site, but anybody suggesting this lineup compares favorably at all to the X1's is kidding themselves. And I say that not trying to insult anybody because obviously we all have different tastes but just because some here may not care for say, Dead Rising 3, doesn't mean there aren't millions of others who do and that game will not be available on anything other than X1. Forza 5 is another great launch title to have and the game Sony has that could counter it is moronically being released on PS3.
Launch window is a phrase that needs to go away. It took 10 months for Pikmin 3 and 11 for W101. Its either launch day or it isnt. The calendar has months and seasons and quaters, but it doesnt have any windows.
@moomoo
One thing people also can't forget about is a little game called Halo which isn't set for release but will probably be out next holiday. Just like any Wii U owners who are disgruntled now will get over it when Wind Waker HD and Super Mario 3D World hit, X1 fans who may be upset if the X1 drought is worse than the usual will get over it when Halo hits. Also, I know Remedy's games fall more into the cult following category but they're working on Quantum Break, which looks fantastic by the way, and that isn't set for release. I have a feeling MS is holding that to compete with inFamous or The Order. For as much as I despise MS' business practices sometimes, it's not a stupid company. Just like everybody believes Sony is holding off on games, there's no reason to believe MS isn't doing the same.
Killzone and Knack is it for me. Also, I agree with rjejr. All I really want to know is launch day.
I am probably going to get Killzone and Need for Speed.
watch dogs from what I'm reading is releasing before the 19th and is actually coming out day one on PS4 that friday.
this true @get2sammyb
Microsoft played their hand at E3, they might have one or 2 more games that they're holding back, but you know Sony has far more.
@Gamer83 Different stokes for different folks. I'd take Killzone over Dead Rising any day. Other people feel differently. It stands to reason that people on this site would probably be fans of Killzone, too!
Pretty decent. Enough to balance with work and school at least. I'm just waiting for mgs and silent hill rumors : )
@get2sammyb
I'm a fan of Killzone and prefer it to Dead Rising myself (though I do like DR as well) and of course I'd expect most on a PS website would feel the same. What I'm saying is you have to put aside personal opinion when discussing the quality of the lineups for the mass consumer. Sales numbers in the past have told the story and more people tend to buy Dead Rising, you have an exclusive like that along with the great third party multiplat games and more first party exclusives that MS has on offer than Sony seems to at the moment and you have a better lineup for MS. If one is truly looking at this in an unbiased manner I don't know how they could suggest Sony is one upping MS on the game front right now. It's like hating on certain games. I'm not a fan of Skyrim at all but I'd be crazy to say it sucks, the critical and commercial success it has proves that there's obviously something good about it.
I'm getting Killzone and... either Watch Dogs or Assassin's Creed IV - I can't decide. I'll be playing plenty of Warframe too, I love the look of that game.
@Gamer83 I do totally get what you're saying, but it's hard not to bring personal bias into it. If you really love Killzone — or Forza, or Dead Rising, or whatever — then of course you're going to have a preference. It's hard to put that aside. I do get where you're coming from, though.
Nothing there that'll have me buying one this year.
Probably waiting until Second Son, then, since I'm getting a Wii U for Lost World soon anyway and that should keep me occupied somewhat.
I am looking forward towards the 15th. I already reserved Watch Dogs and Killzone so I will have that on day one. As far as Indie games Transistor and Mercanary Kings day one. And I am a plus member so get to test out Drive Club before I purchase it. I think I will be perfectly fine with line up release. And have plenty to look forward to in 2014! Let's go Sony!!!!
Also plan on getting Vita for remote play!
@get2sammyb Hear hear!
Of that list I'll be getting:
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag
Battlefield 4
Call of Duty: Ghosts
Killzone: Shadow Fall
Madden 25
Watch Dogs
I'm still on the fence about Knack, just don't know if it will be my cup of tea, but it looks great.
@get2sammyb
I'll give Sony this, take the competition out and just look at the PS4's launch lineup compared to past PlayStations and I'd say it actually has a better day one than 2 or 3 had and yes both those consoles turned out great, though the PS3 did take until 2009 to actually become worthy of a purchase. I'm just bothered by the fact that this launch lineup could be better but Sony is just so focused on its indie initiative that it seems it doesn't realize there's still a place in this industry for blockbuster retail productions as well. MS does seem to get that, and despite the fact it's not the most indie-friendly company out there, XBLA still does manage to get a lot of good games and the balance between those smaller productions and the bigger ones is much, much better on the X1 right now.
@Sanquine Those are all sketches I thought the one of the guy walking through town was in game at first, but look at the people to the left, if you look at their coats you can clearly see these are digital paintings.
I'll be getting Knack once I save up the dough
While I agree that many people out there may think that the X1s launch lineup looks more impressive, I'm personally happy with the PS4 offering. I'll try to afford Killzone, BF4 and the Dedsec Edition of Watch_Dogs and this alone will hopefully keep me occupied for some weeks...then there's Driveclub Plus edition I could upgrade if I crave for more. Will check the free to play games out and buy some games on PSN...then, if I really run dry before inFamous launches, I can always pick up AC4, so: all good.
Still, some people may be swayed because of the X1s (on first sight at least) more impressive launch lineup, so this could indeed pose a problem for Sony. But then, Sony hasn't let all the cool cats out of the bag...there's lots of exclusives Sony hasn't eve revealed yet and they might just land another big blow at TGS to one up MS again.
Driveclub and Battlefield 4 it is for me.
@rjejr
Well said.
Only launch day PS4 game I've pre ordered is Killzone Shadowfall. Already pre ordered CoD Ghosts, AC4 and Watch Dogs on another console I want them on. I've pre ordered 3 additional PS4 games- Infamous Second Son, Kingdom Hearts 3, and Final Fantasy 15, but no telling how long until those will come out. Whenever they pop up on Amazon, I'll also be pre ordering Mirror's Edge 2, MGS5, The Witcher 3, and Beyond Good & Evil 2 (and seriously hoping Dark Souls 2 gets a surprise release)
@Lopezdm
That kind of talk is unnecessary here man. Yes, we're all Sony fans but that doesn't mean we're biased fanboys. Many of us here are also Nintendo fans, such as myself. And the 18 games I have pre ordered for my Wii U tells a slightly different story than your offhand remark suggests. We can be a fan of something without taking cheapshots at other consoles, especially cheapshots that hold no water.
@Lopezdm No offense taken.
