E3 2013: Did Jack Tretton Just Put a Bullet in The Last Guardian?

Anticipated exclusive is on hiatus

We really thought that this was going to be the year that The Last Guardian puffed out its feathers in glorious high resolution on the PlayStation 4 – but it sounds like the title may have been put back on the shelf. Following a promising message from creative director Fumito Ueda earlier in the year – which seemed to indicate that the game would re-emerge imminently – SCEA gaffer Jack Tretton has told GameTrailers that the title is “on hiatus”.

"We’ve got so many projects out there from so many great teams, projects never ultimately go away," the executive said. "So, The Last Guardian is certainly not going away, but it's on hiatus right now."

That comment doesn’t bode well for the troubled Team ICO title, does it? It’s not particularly surprising, though – the exclusive has been on and off the radar publicly for approximately four years, and it’s been in development much longer than that. Sometimes a bullet to the brain is better than prolonged agony.

Ouch... I've never been a fan of these games but I know many are and this would be a nice exclusive for PS4. I wonder what else could be in the works that this is again on hold.

Sad!!!! Very sad!! No new awesome PSV titels, no Da Last Guardian. And on top of all of that, me must wait for The Last of Us. AAafffffff, I forgot.... FF versus XIII have become FFXV and will not come later this yeahr on PS3. I am deepresed.

Too bad they decided to put it on the shelf. I'm curious about what really happened here. Doubt it was a hardware issue because the PS3 and PS4 are plenty powerful. Is it a stock holder thing? Conflict between what the creator wants, and what Sony wants?

Ah, but that prolonged agony is worth it if you surrvive the ordeal. I'm not giving up hope until they shoot it, other wise I'm hoping for something amazing to happen with surgery.
