Peek-a-boo

Rockstar Games has raised the curtains on Max Payne 3’s multiplayer component. The footage (embedded below) focuses on the integration of Payne’s signature gameplay elements, including bullet time.

The developer said:

Max Payne 3 introduces Max Payne’s signature special ability, Bullet Time to multiplayer for the first time. Based on line of sight, this fundamental gameplay mechanic brings a new level of strategy to online play, keeping the action fast-paced while allowing for intense, cinematic gun battles.

The game’s main multiplayer mode, Gang Wars, promises to deliver an “immersive, story-based” competitive mode based on warring factions from the single-player campaign. The mode will feature branching storylines and dynamically changing objectives dependent on the outcome of each round.

If that wasn’t enough, the Payne Killer mode will give players the opportunity to team up with Max’s partner Raul Passos in a “blend of co-operative and competitive play”.

The studio explained:

Outnumbered by enemy players, Max and Passos must band together, fighting off other players and using signature weapons, Bullet Time and painkillers to stay alive.
