Returnal: How to Unlock Daily Challenge Mode
You can't access Simulation Mode — aka Daily Challenge mode — straight away. Before you can play this optional side mode, you have to progress through the main game a bit.
To unlock Daily Challenge, you have to make it through the first biome in the game: Overgrown Ruins. That includes beating the boss Phrike. If you want some tips and advice for fighting bosses, see our guide — Returnal: All Bosses and How to Beat Them.
After defeating Phrike, continue playing as normal until you inevitably return to the crash site. Now, you will be able to play Simulation Mode and compete on the Daily Challenge leaderboards.
Where Do You Find the Daily Challenge Mode in Returnal?
How do you access Daily Challenge mode? It's simple. When you're at the Helios crash site — the safe zone before you start a run — go inside the ship. In the central room, there are two monitors. The smaller one in the corner gives you access to Simulation Mode, which is the Daily Challenge mode. Approach the monitor, press Triangle, and you're in.
