Does Persona 5 Save Data Work with Persona 5 Royal?
The short answer is no. Your Persona 5 save file cannot be carried over to Persona 5 Royal — you can't just load it up and kick things off at the end of Persona 5.
This is because Persona 5 Royal makes numerous changes to how the main story progresses. It also makes small, but ultimately quite significant gameplay adjustments across the board.
The bottom line is that Persona 5 Royal is categorised as a brand new game — it even has its own separate Trophy list.
Persona 5 Save Data Bonus in Persona 5 Royal
Your progress may not carry over, but having Persona 5 save data present on your PS4 does give you access to a few bonuses when you first begin Persona 5 Royal.
If you have a Persona 5 save file on your console, you'll receive:
- 50,000 yen
- Hogyoku Apple x3 (health restoring item)
- Band-Ace x3 (revival item)
You can grab these bonuses from the cardboard box in your room. You won't be able to access them right away, but give it a few days and the option will present itself.
Persona 5 Royal PS5 Save Transfer
With the release of Persona 5 Royal on PS5 on the 21st October, 2022, you may be wondering whether you can transfer your save data from Persona 5 Royal on PS4.
Unfortunately, you cannot. The PS5 version does not have an option to transfer your PS4 progress, meaning that you'll have to start over from scratch if you're playing the PS5 port.
There are also no save data bonuses in the PS5 version of Persona 5 Royal, if you happen to have save data from the PS4 version on your console.

That is incredibly lame. Your social stats should have a massive boost if you have clear data on P5 regular. There’s no reason to not have more for beating the original P5.
Meh, at least you can still buy some good quality weapons and armor when entering Kamoshida's Palace.
I couldn't care less if my P5 save doesn't carry over. I'm happy I get to restart and start fresh all over again, especially with the new changes! Now to wait for tomorrow at 11PM so I can get my copy!
@taylorsparks294 I'm picking up my copy up tomorrow morning. And I cannot wait to utilize some of my previous tricks from P5 onto this one.
I got and completed P5 on PS3. Ah well...
