Best Birthsign for Melee Fighters

If you're going to be using mostly melee weapons throughout your playthrough, then the best Birthsign for you would be The Warrior.

This way, you can get instant boosts to your Endurance and Strength, which dictate how much damage your weapons deal and how often you can swing them about before having to take a rest. It's not the most glamorous of Birthsigns, but a simple stats boost can go a long way — especially in the early hours of the game — to keeping you alive and ticking.

Best Birthsign for Mages

If you're prioritising magic and spell casting during your journey through Oblivion, then The Atronach offers probably the biggest change a Birthsign can make.

Choosing this Birthsign means you won't automatically regenerate your Magicka meter, which is used to cast spells. However, the upside is you get an instant 150-point boost to your Magicka. In addition, if an enemy casts a spell at you, there's a 50% chance you'll absorb it and convert the damage into Magicka restoration for yourself. This is how you get around the lack of automatic Magicka regeneration.

Of course, it only works half the time, but enemies are a constant, so this effect will activate constantly. This way, you can have more powerful spells at all times.

Best Birthsign for Archers

If you're going to play as an archer, then you'll want to engage enemies at a long distance. However, what if you miss your arrows and they manage to get close to you? With an increased movement speed from The Steed, you'll be able to outrun them and get away.

Best Birthsign for Thieves

The best Birthsign for a thief playstyle goes hand in hand with the name: The Thief. Choosing this Birthsign gives you instant boosts to your Agility, Luck, and Speed. That means you can get around faster and be sneakier about it. Also, thanks to the Luck increase, you're less likely to be spotted by enemies during stealth.
