Units can be sourced from quite literally everywhere, to the point that you will be showered in them whilst working your way through the single player campaign. Completing missions will reward them, and so too does every chest variant and resource crate. Once you're done with the story, you'll have a stockpile of thousands of Units.
And when it comes to actually spending them, Units can be used to purchase gear pieces from vendors on the Chimera Helicarrier. You'll find them towards the back of the ship, in the room next to the hangar housing jets and cars. Repeat this process and you'll find yourself fuelling a healthy economy where Units can be quickly spent and gathered all over again at a fairly rapid rate.
