Hardrefill the Callous is probably the first Berserker that you'll attempt to fight. He's a difficult optional boss who wields a large sword. As far as Berserkers go, he's one of the easier challenges that await you (which perhaps says more about the Berserkers that follow than Hardrefill himself).

Most of his attacks are fairly slow, but he packs a punch. Some of his standard sword swings can be blocked, but others must be parried. The timing can be a little tricky because there's a slight delay to his movement, but it shouldn't take you too long to familiarise yourself with the flow.

Hardrefill's most dangerous attack is his slam, which is performed quickly and without mercy. He'll launch himself into the air, and smash into your position. The smash itself has an area of effect, so your dodge roll needs to be on point.

The trick is to not dodge and roll and soon as he jumps. Instead, only start rolling a second or so later, just as he's about to hit the ground. A good technique here is to perform your first normal dodge as he's in the air, and then hit dodge again to make Kratos roll with a very, very slight delay. This way, you won't have to worry about mashing X twice to avoid the whole thing, as your roll will already be locked and loaded after the initial dodge.

As with all Berserkers, Hardrefill has a lot of heath, so you'll need to stay patient throughout this fight. Try not to overcommit, and you should be okay eventually.
