Elden Ring: How to Complete Cliffbottom Catacombs

On this page, we're going to reveal how to complete Cliffbottom Catacombs. We'll include the location, a walkthrough, and any additional information, like item drops.

Cliffbottom Catacombs Location: How to Find It

The Cliffbottom Catacombs is – as the name might suggest – tucked away along a cliffside southeast of Liurnia Highway North. Head due east to reach the slope that leads right to the entrance to the catacombs, but mind the small Vulgar Militia enemies that sit along the path – they can be hard to spot.

Cliffbottom Catacombs: Walkthrough

Begin by heading down the first flight of stairs and activating the Site of Grace before taking the sole path forward and taking the lift down. A Jade Goblin will pounce at you once you reach the bottom so stand ready to deal with it accordingly. You can make use of the lift to get up onto the higher ledge on the west side where you’ll find a Grave Glovewort [2], grab it before heading towards the opening to the west.

Keep an eye on the right-hand corner as you approach the next chamber – another Jade Goblin is waiting to ambush you there. Take care of it and you’ll have a clear path to the Root Resin on the corpse. Pick the Grave Violet before heading down the stairs leading to the closed iron doors. Grab the Root Resin that sits in front of the coffin on the left before moving on past the door.

The next hallway contains yet another Jade Goblin and another Grave Glovewort [2] to add to your inventory on the path to a more open chamber. You’ll get a sneak peek here of the lever you need to pull to open the iron doors, but it’s not quite reachable yet. Run down the stairs and into another passageway with a Jade Goblin, but look out for the ice arrow pressure plate on the floor here, or alternatively press it on purpose to use the trap against the enemy. Regardless of your method of dispatch, head around the next corner where another Jade Goblin awaits, and head out into another chamber.

Straight ahead you’ll see a Grave Glovewort [3] glowing in the darkness, but it’s not unguarded – an ogre enemy is sleeping right next to it. You can sneak up to get a good first hit on it, but sneaking past the slumbering ogre isn’t very viable as getting anywhere near will wake it right up. It has quite a bit of health, so it’s ultimately your call if the Grave Glovewort [3] is worth the risk.

Regardless, you'll have to deal with an ogre enemy who patrols up the stairs in this room in front of the Stonesword Key gate. Try to lure the big oaf down the stairs and dispatch it there as two especially annoying Jade Goblins sit on the ledge overlooking the gate and will chuck magic pots down at you. Take them all out in turn to make this floor safe to navigate. The Stonesword Key gate requires two keys to open and it contains a Jade Goblin guarding a Nox Mirrorhelm that's sitting on the corpse. This helmet isn’t particularly strong, but it sure is shiny!

Back outside, behind the stairs leading up to the next level is a corpse holding a valuable Rune Arc that’s free for the taking. Head up the stairs now and down the hallway, but look out for another arrow trap pressure plate which sits at the end of the hallway this time rather than in the middle of it. This room also contains two more Jade Goblins that’ll attack you simultaneously, defeat them to clear the way to the Grave Glovewort [2] in the alcove and take the next hallway headed east.

This path leads to a U-shaped corridor with a room in the middle. Head all the way around to the other end where you’ll encounter three Jade Goblins, a Grave Glovewort [3], and a Golden Rune [3] at the end of the path. The room in the middle has an arrow trap pressure plate at its entrance, three more Jade Goblin enemies, a Grave Violet, and the Scythe weapon which makes this whole trip worth your while.

Straight across from the Scythe room, you’ll get another glimpse at the lever we need to pull, but it’s still out of reach. The previous route we took was just a detour, the actual way forward is down. Drop down from the balcony here onto the stairs, and drop down yet again to the dark depths below. This chamber contains two ogre enemies, but there’s also some grass you can use to sneak around them if you’re not in fighting shape. If you do decide to take the ogres head-on, make sure you only take on one at a time as grabbing the attention of both at once will easily get you overwhelmed.

Before leaving this area, make sure to grab the three Grave Gloveworts [3], a Hefty Beast Bone, and the Prattling Pate “Wonderful” which are scattered across this ogre-infested room. Head into the next hallway to find a dead end on your left and another ogre patrolling the path on the right. If you look at the dead end wall closely, you’ll notice the holes of another freezing arrow trap, the switch for which is in the center of the next room. This trap can be used to take out the next ogre quickly and effectively, leaving you safe to grab the Grave Glovewort [2] in the hallway.

There aren’t any more enemies or obstacles to worry about in this area – simply follow the path, climb the ladder that it leads to, and emerge to a chamber with bookshelves. To your immediate left is another ogre, but its back is turned meaning you can get the jump on it with a backstab. The altar it’s defending has the Page Ashes, so taking the ogre out here is worth your while.

After adding the ashes to your collection, turn around to find that you’ve finally arrived at the lever we’ve been trying to reach all this time. Look out for another Jade Goblin as you approach, grab some Old Fangs from the corpse in the corner, and throw the lever to open the iron doors we saw earlier. To get back to the set of doors we just opened, simply drop down onto the steps below, head up them toward the north, and follow this path around to find the doors on your right. All that’s left is to take the stairs down and come to the mist gate, beyond which an Erdtree Burial Guardian awaits.
