Just ordered Live A Live and Monster Hunter: Rise on Switch for €30 and €25 respectively. I honestly only wanted to get Live A Live as I've been eyeing that game since it came out, but I figured I could give MH: Rise a go at that price. Old Monster Hunter never clicked with me. I remember playing Tri on Wii and that was such a slow game. I've heard that Rise is quicker in a lot of regards, so maybe the series will finally click with me this time. Either way, I'm looking forward to playing both games!

@LtSarge Yeah, with the wirebugs in Rise, you basically become Spider-Man. And navigation is way quicker with your Palamute mounts as well.

The old games are like trudging through molasses in comparison.

Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)

@Ralizah It genuinely sounds like major improvements! I've also heard the hunts don't take as long and that you don't need to prepare for them as much. I'm actually getting quite excited to play it!

On a side note, I did also give Monster Hunter: World a go years ago and it was really fun. I think it was around the time my PS4 hard drive stopped working, so I lost my save file and I ended up abandoning the game. But if Rise appeals to me, I'll probably play World next.

I've been wanting to get into Monster Hunter for so long because I think I'd like this series. I just need to find a good entry point.

@LtSarge Yep. The game basically tells you where monsters are, meaning there's no need to hunt for them, and a lot of the planning/preparatory elements from previous games were streamlined in World and Rise. The emphasis is very much on pushing the player into fighting sooner than later.

There is still exploration, though. You'll find spiribirds and other creatures around the map that'll power up your character for the hunt.

It's probably THE best entry point from an accessibility perspective.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD Collection - wasn’t even aware that they got the HD collectors treatment on PS3 so was a real nice surprise when I stumbled on them.

@oliverp 🤣 well, it wouldn’t be the first simply-collection purchase (or the last for that matter 😅) but no I will be playing these. I’ve been jonesing for some spec-ops stealth action since finishing off the Metal Gear Solid series a few years ago and these are the perfect remedy by all accounts.

Bought a fair amount of games in the recent Xbox sales. Got Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad for €5, Earth Defense Force 2017 for €5, Starlink: Battle for Atlas for €12, and Trackmania Turbo for €5.

I played the first two Onechanbara games on PS+ Extra earlier this year and the games were so much fun! I looked up where to play the third one and it's apparently only available on Xbox. So imagine my surprise when I saw that the third game, which never goes on sale, was on sale. I just had to get it!

Never played an EDF game before, so for €5 I figured why not give this series a try. There are apparently two other EDF games on PS4 that are fairly cheap now so I might get those as well if 2017 appeals to me.

For some reason, Starlink seems to have gone under the vast majority's radar. Maybe it was because of the toys to life feature, but you don't actually need the toys since you get a bunch of items digitally. Either way, this looks like tons of fun and a seemingly underrated game. It seems like No Man's Sky but with a story and it's rather lengthy as well. I'm definitely looking forward to playing this game the most out of these purchases.

Never played a Trackmania game before either, so I'm looking forward to giving this series a try as well!

Just preordered Anonymous;Code on Switch. It's the first of the three Switch games I'm preordering this month that I won't be playing on day one but still getting just so I have secured a copy. Although who knows, maybe I'll start up one of these games if I'm in the mood!

Just preordered Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster on Switch. Really nice feeling that I soon get to own these games after knowing about them for so long on the GameCube.

Just picked up a copy of the PS3 Game of Thrones rpg from 2012 for £3.50 together with a nice steelbook edition of God of War: Ascension for £8.00 from my local CEX. Yet another counter-intuitive move by myself while getting extremely close to my goal of finally clearing my PS3 backlog.

@colonelkilgore Some nice bargains there. I enjoyed God of war ascension, I felt people were a bit too critical on it. It was pretty good. Unfortunately it does use an online pass so you might want to check that that works....if it does then you might want to get the online trophy out of the way.

@CaptD aye thankfully I already played through it and got the platinum a while back… the steelbook edition is more of a collection purchase than anything else. I totally agree with you though, it was a more than decent installment… the only thing I can think of that accounts for the reaction to it was that players felt that Kratos pre-2018 antics had become a bit long in the tooth. Personally I liked it well enough though.

Preordered the last game of September I'm interested in, which is The Legend of Nayuta: Boundless Trails - Deluxe Edition on Switch. It sounds like another stellar Falcom game based on the reviews! Maybe not in the same vein as The Legend of Heroes, but at least it looks similar to the older Ys games, which were tons of fun!

Just ordered Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope for €20. Still baffles me how fast Ubisoft games go down in price considering that this game come out only one year ago. Was definitely worth waiting on buying it.

Bought in preparation for playing on my Steam Deck OLED next year. All on Steam, obvs:

  • REmake HD
  • Resident Evil Zero
  • Resident Evil 3
  • Yakuza Kiwami 2
  • Yakuza: Like A Dragon

In retrospect, I wish I'd also purchased Yakuza 3 on sale, but it's not like I'll have any lack of these games to play next year. As for RE, those three games, plus a second playthrough of RE2 as Claire, will last me a good bit. Going through the series mostly in order starting next year until I catch up (will pick up RE4R and RE7 for 2025 in the future, bypassing 5 & 6 entirely).

I'm convinced Ubisoft's price cratering antics are why initial sales for the sequel were way lower than for the original. Nintendo fans aren't nearly as accustomed to that pricing strategy, and I'm sure it annoyed more than a few people who preordered it expecting it'd hold its value for some time.

@Ralizah For sure. I just can't imagine paying full price for a Ubisoft title. At least Assassin's Creed Mirage was priced at €40 at launch, which is a very reasonable price for a new game.

Can't wait to see how fast the new Avatar game will go down in price!

On a side note, I think EA's strategy is even more ridiculous. Putting €80 titles on their service that only costs €4 a month one year after release is madness. Why would I ever consider buying games like the Dead Space remake or Star Wars Jedi Survivor when I can play them one year later for only €4?

@LtSarge I chose to buy it at launch to support the game, since I really love the series, but I knew it'd be $20 or less in a year. It's why I buy almost nothing from them anywhere close to full price.

The same was true of Sony last gen, although their games seem to be dropping less rapidly in price so far with the PS5 generation.

Super Mario RPG for Switch...haven't had time to touch it yet, though.

Ordered some more games during the Black Friday sales. I got Evil West, Steelrising and Atomic Heart on Series X for €75 in total. All look like fun and unique games, so I'm really happy with these purchases. Looking forward to playing them!
