@Octane @Gamer83 I couldn't care less about paying more, really. I don't have a Wii U any more so it's not an option so it doesn't really matter to me. Plus, I'll be getting it as a present so it definitely doesn't matter to me. I liked the old Donkey Kong games though so I'm looking forward to this one.

@Tasuki xbl gold is shareable for all the users on the home console plus you can bring it to another with your account. I'm not sure I understand your statement that every user has to buy it at the full price?

Interesting for the NES games they mentioned:

"Compete or cooperate online with friends, share your screen (So stream the game to someone to watch), or pass the controller, depending on the game"

So it sounds like in something coop like Super Mario Bros. you can play 2 player over the internet and "pass the controller", and in something Zelda you can straight up stream it to friends

@Fight_Teza_Fight I'm not expecting PS+ level discounts, but I'm eager to see what discounts they offer. Probably "5%" off two or three games each month.

Huh. So Nintendo has confirmed Virtual Console isn't coming to Switch.

Considering that was one of the main reasons I bought one, I'm not thrilled. Hopefully they'll be bringing lots of old games to this online service thing.

@Tasuki @Octane @YummyHappyPills @Ralizah Looks like the virtual console won’t be coming to Switch. That’s a deal breaker for me. Would’ve happily paid £20/year for the virtual console if they kept adding to it & not just some retro NES titles (don’t need the other online features).
Going to have to see how good those EShop discounts end up being, but as of now it’s wait & see.

But hey, if you wanna pay £3.49 per NES game again be my guest I guess.

Though to be fair I dont know why you bought a system when they never said it was coming in the first place and your basis for buying the system was "Games I've already played".

@YummyHappyPills No need to ride in upon your mighty steed to their defence. All I said was that virtual console was a primary reason I bought a Switch, and like many people, I naturally assumed it was coming.

@YummyHappyPills Price isn't fixed. There's nothing stopping them from selling them for less than that.

Also, people need to stop assuming that people buy the entire NES or SNES catalog of games on VC. I haven't bought VC games on the Wii U because I knew it wasn't going to be supported for a long time. I only own 1 or 2 VC titles on Wii, and I don't own a 3DS.

I can still play ALTTP, or SMW on my GBA/DS, but if I can play them for a few quid on a bigger screen, sure why not? Games like Murasame Castle or Earthbound that are either hard to find, expensive or were never localised are great candidates for VC (or whatever they call it) as well. The Pokémon games too.

And im not coming to their defence. On a personal note I think this online service, cloud saves aside, is crap. The app isn't dead, NES games with new features are cool...I guess? Special offers will be what, 5% off? And paying for Nintendo's quality of online on top? £17.99 or not it's sh*t.

@Octane there is nothing stopping them for selling them for less, but Arcade Archives Vs. Super Mario Bros is over £6! They are going UPWARDS!

I can play all these games on my SNES Classic anyway. At this point the service just doesn't matter. I dont even play many online games.

@YummyHappyPills Well it's certainly made an ass out of me. I mean, I still would have got one anyway, for Mario, and Zelda, and Pokemon, and now Metroid. I did really want that Virtual Console, though. Now it sounds like they're trying to force people into paying for the online service to play legacy titles, which is fine by me if they make a robust, Netflix-style system of hundreds of games. You know, like the opposite of what they have announced so far.

I mean it launches with 20 games more to come "Regularly". If its anything like what Nintendo considers "Regular releases" lately, every other month.

@YummyHappyPills I feel like I'm probably still going to pay for it because I really do like having access to old games like that, and I'm more likely to play one of those than like, Arms or whatever.

I dont pay to play online on any system regardless of benefits or price. I buy a game I play all it has without needing to buy more, DLC aside. No in app purchases, no subscriptions.

How well will the online work in these old games? Especially online co-op? Imagine the input problems.

If we were getting simply a better online play experience with none of these benefits for £5, then fine. Maybe I would. But all this fluff is just fluff. Pointless and has no value to me. The solutions to problems that didn't need to exist, and the solutions aren't good.

Even cloud saves. Woo. If I lose my files I'll just backlog em until I feel like playing again one day anyway.

@Octane Beats me. But it's always there. One slot taken that an indie could occupy. It's why VC needs to stay dead as far as I care

@YummyHappyPills The only game I care about right now is Splatoon 2. Maybe I'll jump back into Splatoon 1 after September, I don't even play it on a weekly basis anyway.

Just make the other games more visible. And it's not like I would buy less indie titles if they had some of their classic games available on the eShop. Oh well, fortunately emulation exists.

And yes, most of it is fluff. It's the thing I was afraid for. €20 for an online service isn't worth it when it used to be free, or when it is free on PC. I wonder how long it's going to be before people start demanding SNES games and GameBoy games. And when they come, it will come with a price hike a bunch of complaining. Then repeat the same thing for N64 and the rest of their consoles until they hit the €60 a year.

@YummyHappyPills The only online multiplayer game I play is Final Fantasy XIV so I would imagine I'll never play any of these Switch games online at all. Thank God. It looks like a joke.

@Octane What's weird about this is it may be a third of the PS+ price, and even if it launches with 20 games, those 20 games aren't worth even half of a terrible PS+ month anymore. Now if they set it up like Game Pass where instead of being a monthly "Get em before its gone" and instead its more of a catalogue, then that's at least BETTER, but its not stopping it still being terrible.

I'd even argue Nintendo's online wasn't worth it when free anyway. People are already demanding SNES games. This will eventually inflate and pop.
