I guess those will be also the final 2. I will go on to vote for BB in the finals but FFVII will win the whole thing by a landslide. This will be perceived as a personal victory by some of the voters, who will claim that From Software was overrated all along and everything was better in the 90's.

I won't feel too sad though... nothing that a hot cup of chocolate and a little jazz fusion can't fix.

@Perturbator I mean, pretty much everything you said is true. Games were better in the 90’s (though 2023 is quite a year), FromSoft was overrated (though they continuously improve, so I’d argue it in past tense rather than present), and jeez do I hope FF7 wipes out whatever competition it has because it will feel like a personal victory for some strange reason for many of us that have been voting on here for a while… though I’m still sort of sad PT got voted out before it even had a chance.

And also hot chocolate and jazz fusion makes everything better.

All four are spectacular games, in their own right. I went with TLoU over BB simply because I think it’s just more my favored genre, although I’ve really come around on the FromSoft character action games. Having played BB, DS1, and DeS, I do think I’d rate BB as the best of those I’ve played so far. It’s outstanding, but I feel like TLoU is a gaming touchstone and the quintessential narrative-driven adventure.

I went with FF7 over MGS3 simply because of pure nostalgia and it’s iconic nature in the industry. Honestly, if I had to play one of the two of them again today, I’d rather play MGS3 because I feel like FF7 hasn’t aged quite as well. But years ago I was absolutely obsessed with it in a way few other games have grabbed me. It was my first thoughts in the morning and my last thoughts at night. Gaming has mostly moved on from the structure of FF7 and it’s turn-based random encounters and basic systems are more of a niche relic nowadays, but there’s no doubting the magic that the game contains.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

I just don't know what to vote in that battle between The Last of Us and Bloodborne... I'm just realizing three of the four games left are games I actually nominated. So, not only is my taste very mainstream, but also makes it extremely hard to decide what to vote.

Final Fantasy VII, I didn't nominate it. So let's make it easy and I'll vote for Snake Eater.

Harder is The Last of Us Versus Bloodborne. I think Bloodborne as a game is better. It has intense battles, a story you would find in a game, it's challenging to the player and has more freedom. It's more gamey than TLOU, and therefore first that title 'BEST GAME OF ALL TIME' rather well.
But I don't know, The Last of Us might have been a more important milestone for gaming. I don't think games need to be like movies, or should become more and more like movies, but I do think that The Last of Us succeeded in telling a story that wasn't done before in gaming. I also think every confrontation feels like something out of a movie, and challenging, but they don't feel scripted either. More than Bloodborne, game devs should study The Last of Us. It's better than a movie in exactly the ways it isn't a movie, but it's exactly as good as the best movie in all the ways it is.

it's... difficult. But I'm high on the feels for The Last of Us, thanks to the series, and I also think that if you had asked me what game I want to play right now, I'd say TLOU still. Therefore...

TLOU
MGS3

@Perturbator 99 on Metacritic for sure. I’d honestly love that being a real release, so I’m going to put my faith in you on that one.

@Kidfried you have great taste bro 👌

FF7, MGS 3 and Bloodborne are all sequels of sorts building in their respective prequels and blowing us away. I think all 3 are infinitely more replayable than TLOU. But TLOU came out of the blue, a masterwork in direction, set pieces and world building. It even started a discussion within mainstream news of the probability of the zombie fungus ever happening. We also had a partner throughout the game who had a potty mouth of a football hooligan with the likeability of a tamagotchi.
