watching the old HBO movie Deadlock on Tubi tonight.
i swear to god that i remember seeing a tv mini series based on the movie that the mini series was on NBC back during 1992 or 1993. it involved the same plot with the explosive collars but also a secret big underground rebellion group thing going on too.
@seinfeldfanatic That was also the opening of the original Running Man, explosive prison collars and an underground movement who were working to overthrow the TV Network that were hosting the show. There was also a weird Rutger Hauer movie called Wedlock, it had the same director as Cujo and Cat's Eye. It was sort of like Fortress but no where near as good as Fortress. I love that cheesy movie, anything with Kurtwood Smith really.

I quite fancy “Crime 101”. But I have a feeling it will only make me want to see “Heat” again.
My local cinema is showing Sinners, once again. In about two weeks time. So I will definitely be going that evening. Missed it first time around. And everyone here agrees how good it is.
I must say that I think Michael B Jordan is a terrific actor. Loved his role in Black Panther, and the three Creed movies are excellent. Apparently he was in The Wire (tv) when he was much younger.
@Matthewnh "Crime 101" is absolutely worth seeing, if you ask me, but could be worth going in knowing that it doesn't live up to the "Heat" comparisons. Still, it is a finely crafted cops and robbers movie in its own right, with some good performances and character work (like "Heat", this movie likes to spend time with its characters in their "daily life", much to its benefit - I would actually have liked the movie to spend even more time on that, even if it would throw off the pacing, which is already slightly wobbly, and make a long movie even longer).
All in all, I really enjoyed it, so I hope you will, too.
And I completely agree with your comments on Michael B. Jordan. Fantastic actor!
@JohnnyShoulder@Matthewnh Yeah, I think it was either "Creed" or "Chronicle" I saw him in first, too. "Chronicle" was properly good and Josh Trank showed a lot of promise... then came his severely misguided "Fantastic Four" reboot and coupled with rumours of him being difficult to work with put Trank solidly in director jail. Not sure what he's done since, if anything. Jordan, however, went from brilliance to brilliance to my eternal delight
I saw ‘Sinners’ two nights ago. Michael B. Jordan’s performance is outstanding, probably my favourite twin performance ever. I’m kicking myself for not seeing this in a theatre. I had no idea prior to watching it that it was filmed on 70mm and Panavision 70. It especially hurts as I have access to a legit 1.43:1 screen with a proper 70mm IMAX film projector, though I’m not sure if Sinners was screened in this format as ‘Oppenheimer’ was. I imagine it’s very expensive to bring in an IMAX projectionist.

@Metonymy Glad you enjoyed it also! It was a rare repeat viewing for me which I usually reserve for the classics I grew up with.
I believe there is two different ways that IMAX movies are filmed. You can blame Gemini if any of the below is wrong!
"Filmed for IMAX" is a certification program (launched in 2020) where filmmakers use specific, IMAX-approved high-resolution digital cameras (e.g., Sony Venice, ARRI Alexa LF) to create content optimized for IMAX screens. This differs from "Shot with IMAX" (film), providing an expanded 1.90:1 aspect ratio and enhanced picture quality tailored for the large format experience.

Like I said before though, I'm a huge fan of musicals, so this type of story with musical elements felt like it was tailor-made for me.
You and my partner would definitely get along. Case in point, we watched the stage adaptation of Frozen this past week, and he ended up preferring it to the original movie. I can't say I have a strong opinion on Frozen either way, but I must admit that the adaptation was very nicely done. If he ever hears rumours of an impending Wicked revival, I'll let you know!
We also watched the live-action Lilo & Stitch, which was great. I heckin' love those characters.

@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, very few theatres worldwide are equipped to show 15 perf 70mm film. Most are a digital dual laser version. Parts of ‘Sinners’ was filmed with actual IMAX cameras, so it’d absolutely be worth seeing the 70mm version if possible. It’s hard to describe the difference but it’s plain to see if you get the chance. Cannot wait for ‘The Odyssey’, which was shot entirely on IMAX cameras. It will be a truly incredible spectacle.

today i had planned on going to see Scream 7 at the movie theater downtown and its alot of walking for me to do since i have to walk all the way to the downtown area to go see a movie or eat the diner/novelty candy place.
but im always a procrastinator and a lazy butt. plus the weather's a little chilly out at 28 to 30something degrees. if the weather was a little warmer then i would have been in the downtown area right about now.
@GirlVersusGame well ive only seen Deadlock/Wedlock back in the day. Plus the tv mini movie series or whatever it was called Deadlock 2 aka Deadlocked.
Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Such a great film and great to see Pat Roach in it (you may have seen him before in such tv shows as Auf Wiedersehen Pet).
You do get bored of the theme tune by the end though.
Wolf Children (2012)
Another achingly beautiful anime from Mamoru Hosoda, in which a young woman falls for a mysterious man who turns out to be a werewolf... but then, when tragedy strikes, she is left to raise their two wolf children alone. What follows is a powerful tale of single motherhood, dealing with themes of personal acceptance, finding oneself, and environmental symbiosis along the way. An instant new favourite.
Plus, its gorgeous steelbook makes for a fine addition to my humble collection.

@Werehog I had no idea Anime gets such beautiful covers, it makes sense but I never thought of it before. I can name each one I've seen on one hand, one was called Spice and Wolf, that art-work reminds me of it in a big way. The others were Angel Beats, LuckyStar, Madoka Magica and I think that's all of them. Do you collect a specific/type/style or is it more that it speaks to you?
This happened.
This too.
There are 365 videos/people on that playlist/series. It's incredibly varied too.
@Werehog that looks like a fantastic steelbook. I really need to get around to watching that one.
My wife and I went to see "The Bride" today. We both didn't really know what to make of it. The performances were all great and the sets/costumes & makeup were all top notch.
Bring Her Back. I thought it was brilliant. Interesting that the directors, who are brothers, lost a close friend and changed the script, so some scenes are a bit sadder in tone rather then shocking/scary.

I finally got around to showing my girlfriend a movie from 1998 called (depending on your region) Dead Man's Curve or the Curve. It's about two college students who decide to manufacture their roommates suicide (I know people don't like that word) when they hear on MTV that if your roommate does that you get a 4.0 (passing grade) for the semester. They intend to pull it off and use the passing grade to enter Harvard Law. It stars Matthew Lillard (Scream) in his best performance (possibly ever) And has all of the trappings of a late 90's Teen/Black Comedy including Aimee Mann on the soundtrack (her music features on many 90's movies) I hadn't seen it in years and I remembered it being a little slicker, it's most likely because my tastes matured and became more refined, it was still quite good and she really liked it. I'd say it's quite rare, I knew I had a copy and couldn't find it nor do I see it mentioned all that often if ever.
