@nessisonett Outstanding match. I watched the whole run from the qualifying games and Emma just got better with each match. One of my favourite things about Amazon Prime is amount of tennis it has.
@BearsEatBeets Yeah, I’ve been watching tennis since I was young but it’s been a while since I’ve seen someone so impressive. Both players were hitting shots that players twice their age would struggle to hit consistently!
@nessisonett Think it's possible we have another Evert–Navratilova style rivalry that go on for a while. I certainly hope so because it's quality tennis. There has been quite a spread of winners in the women's game since Serena's decline so it will be interesting to see if they can maintain this level through their careers.
@nessisonett@BearsEatBeets Incredible match where Fernandez looked better for the most past but Raducanu stepped up at key moments. To go through qualifying and win the tournament without dropping a set is just ludicrous.
Thankfully it doesn’t seem that the medical time out at the end is being picked up on by the press or Fernandez’s camp as an excuse or anything.
One of the best matches I’ve seen in ages and I’m glad Channel 4 managed to get the rights to show it live too.
@TheBrandedSwordsman It’s all a mess, particularly seeing as it was seemingly all still on the night before.
It’s hard not to think too cynically about the IPL being a reason or whether India would have done the same if they weren’t leading the series. But then England left the series in South Africa last year because of Covid so it’s difficult to know really.
@Thrillho Yeah thankfully other than a few internet muppets everyone in the press and the sport know the medical timeout was required by the rules and probably had little baring on the outcome. I don't blame Fernandez for getting bothered by how long it took when she felt like she was gaining some momentum though but the pause could have easily worked against Emma as much help her.
I was quite surprised when Amazon did a deal for the final with Channel 4 to allow them to also show it and even more so when Amazon donated the fee to British Women's Tennis. Still it was probably extra publicity for their service which I greatly appreciate as they cover way more tennis events than the main sports channels. I'll be curious to see how many tuned in to the match.
@Thrillho Wow that's some pretty impressive figures, especially in this age of so many options and ways of watching things. Plus you can add all the people like me who watched it on Prime too. Thanks for sharing the info.
@Jimmer-jammer I checked mine and apparently I’m not ignoring anybody, despite having only ever utilised it once. Perhaps said person got banned, I dunno.
@ralphdibny@Keith_Zissou I truly dislike the puns Lidl uses in their slogans. In Sweden, their slogan is "Allt annat är olidligt", which basically translates into "Everything else is unbearable". The pun being that the Swedish word "olidligt" has the word "Lidl" in it. I feel like they could do a bit better than that, lol.
On a side note, the only thing I buy from Lidl that isn't available elsewhere is their pasta and chicken salad, which has made me fall in love with salad dishes in general. I don't know if it's their own brand but I can't find it anywhere else and it's just so good!
Edit: actually mine are slightly different because they don't have the black bits on the bottom
They should last me a while if only because I won't have much reason to wear them (but I'll try and find reasons!!)
I'm not sure actually, I just call it the middle aisle but when I've talked to others about it, they've called it the "middle of Lidl". Great stuff there though, keeps me occupied while my partner does the "real" shopping 😂. I often buy random tools from there so I have to limit my visits so I don't end up with shed loads!
I gotta say I love their Bratwurst. I think the quality of the meat and vegetables in Lidl is so much better than the larger supermarkets. It's definitely my favourite place to do the food shopping.
I'm trying to think what their catchphrase is over here. It's not "Every little helps" because that's Tesco, though a Lidl could fit into that sentence. I'm sure it's something like (I just looked it up now...) "Big on quality, Lidl on price"
I wouldn't mind some professor peppy right now! Can't believe M and S sued them over the Colin caterpillar cake! I'm not sure what the end result of all that was but I'm sure the PR was great for Aldi
There used to be another similar shop over here called Netto or Netto's that had like a yellow logo. I remember buying lots of cheap toys and even Pokémon manga from their middle aisle when I was a kid
@ralphdibny Not gonna lie, if it weren't for those colours, those trainers would look very nice.
We also had Netto here in Sweden but another national chain apparently bought up all the Swedish stores so Netto basically doesn't exist at all here anymore, which is sad. I also have fond memories of it as a kid.
@Keith_Zissou cheers! I can't pretend to know who those people are but having looked them up, I'm probably a bit out of the loop on modern music 😅
If you're not fussed about the branding then Dunlop make a nice converse style plimsole for like £12.99. I bought some in sports direct like...oh dear, ten years ago now 😂. Maybe they still do them?!
That makes sense actually, the Netto that was near me is actually now an Asda!
@LtSarge hahah what you talking about?! The colours are dope!
It was the first Orange Walk since before Covid today. One can only hope that the rising cases in Glasgow make a dent. Nothing worse than getting woken up by bloody pipes and drums.
