Pretty exciting quali. Q2 Top 12 drivers within 0.9s, Hulk missing out by 0.002s and Colapinto by 0.005s.
Q3 Russell having an issue made quali more interesting - I was actually hoping he started P10 so we got a better idea where they actually are. Can Antonelli get a good start, or will he have another shocker 2/2 so far. Will Mercedes go side by side and try and block out Ferrari? McLaren have closed the gap too.
Gasly did well for P7 ahead of the Red Bulls. Hadjar just 0.1s behind Max. Bearman / Haas in Q3. All interesting news.
Looking forward to the race. But long day ahead!
Re: "off" feeling, it's definitely there... but I felt the same about DRS, about ground effect porpoising, about Halo, about many of these changes in the past. It's just new. What I can't quite understand is how negative people are being after so little time. I tried to watch the P1 SQ podcast and it was just miserable. Let the regs bed in then judge.
I think what people are also forgetting all too quickly is all the troubles with the old regs. Lack of overtaking, DRS trains etc. A LOT of dull 'racing', or lack of it, in the last 4 years. Maybe these regs will work out, maybe they won't but it's FAR too early to call before even the second full race. But we see across everything now, little patience. (huff)
@themightyant Happy for Kimi breaking the record and yeah, George from p10 would have been interesting. Gasly is certainly starting the season strongly. Agree with all your points.
Just watching the P1 Sprint review now and they seem a bit more level headed about it all (so far at least).
Have a good day mate, maybe catch you in the morning for the race.
I'm a lightweight, I've only just caught up with the acton. Really enjoyed the sprint and the qualifying, for all the people moaning about racing not being true this year, the spectacle has been fun for what we have seen so far.
I'm surprised that Farrari have been so close to Mercedes so far, it looks like a really fine chassis. I think the mercedes speed advantage is going to be too much to overcome, but given how the farrari is likely to have them by the first corner, we could see some fun in the first laps.
Well done to you both for having the commitment to get up early to watch this live, I'm considering trying an early rise for the race, but we'll see 😀
@BearsEatBeets Yeah I'm gutted for Mclaren. That Merc too fast at this stage for Farrai to get near. Maybe as the tyres go, but Mercs are good on their tyres too.
oooo.saftey car and pits shakes things up again...
Safety Car right after pitting isn’t going to help Max’s mood. Another disastrous start for him. Another great one from Alonso, hopefully we get to see it this time.
At least these early stops might force some 2 stoppers.
@themightyant Welcome to the party ant. I'm enjoying the spectacle this year so far, cars can really follow close and that makes all the difference.
Hmmm, /BLT sounds nice..😋
It’s a difficult problem for Ferrari. They seem to be able to keep up with Mercedes when fighting but as soon as the Merc is in clean air they drive away especially if the Ferraris are losing time fighting each other.
We don’t really want team orders but it’s they want to win right now they probably have to work together.
Bearman / Haas faster than Max / Red Bull? Didn’t expect that at all!
@themightyant looks like leclerc has taken too much from tyres, if the tyres hang on, I suspect Hamilton has got him covered.
Ant first with Hammy 3rd is a dream result for me, be really pleased with that!!
Sad to see Verstapen retire....
Kimi’s heartbeat has probably just gone up a little bit 😄
How is Bearman not in the top 3 of driver of the day?
Edit: Happy for Lewis to finally get his Ferrari podium. Hopefully more to come this season. Ferrari providing some great entertainment so far.
Williams got to be happy to pick up some points, even if helped by cars dropping out.
And yet again Crofty not knowing what is going on thinking cars are still racing when they have taken the chequered flag due to being lapped.
4 points between George and Kimi in the championship. 1 point between Lewis and Charles. Bearman and Lando in 5th and 6th didn’t think I’d be saying that!
Yeah, really enjoyed that. Nice to see how much that means to Kimi. I’m warming to the new regulations already, it certainly seems like they can follow each other much better in fast corners. If they can just find a way so they don’t need to ease off so much on the straights it will probably reduce a lot of the negativity.
I think Suzuka next might suit the Ferrari cars a bit more. It will be interesting to see if they can actually overtake easier there this year.
@BearsEatBeets ultimately the wheel to wheel racing is currently better than last regs. Really enjoyed the Kimi, George, Lewis, Charles battles throughout the whole race. Just need teams to close up on Mercedes. That unplanned break might help. Fingers crossed. Japan next though. Looking forward to seeing how these cars handle 130R!
