I hope Holy Knight doesn't find this...

Anyways, this is the place to talk about Fighting games, including tips, favorite characters and games, online match-ups, and more.

I'll start by asking a simple question:

What's your favorite fighting game of all time?

Despite the title mine is not the Guilty Gear franchise, although it is definitely up there. I'm always changing mine, actually, but right now it's King of Fighters XIII. It's pretty much everything I've wanted from KOF since '98, and the series has always been king in my eyes.

Love fighting games though sometimes I just suck at them. xP

Can't really say what my favorite fighter of all time is but I know I've put in 250+ hours in Brawl.

Right now, I may pick up Street Fighter X Tekken sometime soon just not on launch. Also plan on picking up Blazblue for the Vita and Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike Online soon.

Oh btw, @GundamMac, how are the King of Fighters games? I saw a KoF Collection on PS2 but I never really payed attention to the series before that.

Yeah, I'll be getting both games for the Vita once I get one. I've been waiting forever for SF X Tekken, and I can't wait to finally continue the story in Blazblue Continuum Shift II.

As for the King of Fighters, it's a really good series, with lots of characters, personality, and complexity. With that said, it's also a very difficult series, and you're gonna have to spend a lot of time practicing even to get through the single player mode. If you do get the collection, I recommend starting with either '96, because it's got the easiest singleplayer mode aside from the boss, or '98, which has the easiest boss in the history of the series, and because really it's the best of the package. In fact, I actually recommend you get King of Fighters '98: Ultimate Match for the PS2 instead, because it's basically '98 with more characters, moves, and singleplayer modes, including a challenge mode which makes for an in-depth tutorial, plus it has the Neogeo version on it, too. I only suggest going with the collection if you really get into the series and want to experience the history of it, or are up for a challenge (they're harder in every single way), or of course if you can't fimd Ultimate Match for a good price (which shouldn't be a problem if you order it online). There's barely anything that '94-'97 have over '98.

My favorite series is Soul Calibur, ever since SC2 on SP2. Just got SC4 recently, and the online players are ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUSLY good at the game. I really don't understand how players can be THAT good other than lots of practice and playing.

SC is a surprisingly complex game, actually. There's a lot to it, despite the fact that you don't need to know the ins and outs to be decent at it.

So which KoF would you recommend for someone just starting the series? Ultimate Match?

Yes. It's the got the most balance between difficulty and complexity, making it the best to get into for new players. It was also tweaked for console players, so it should be easier for you to pull off moves. I can even do it on my Xbox 360 version. Please note, though, that it will still be a very difficult ride, at least on normal difficulty. You may want to lower the dif. when you first boot it up.

Oh, and if you get it and like it, I urge you to pick up KOF XIII, since it's basically a step up from '98 - It uses a lot of mechanics from that game, with some additional tweaks that make it even better. Plus it's got K' in it.

Watched the trailer for XIII. Sprites look excellent. I love the animations and the combos. K looked really cool too.

So yea, if I ever find KoF 98': Ultimate Match at a decent price, I'll pick it up. If not, I'll just order it on Amazon. Really looking forward to getting into some new series.

I play BlazBlue occasionally just to keep myself satiated until the Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena comes out, at which point I never need another fighting game ever. Unless they come out with a Super Ultimate in Mayonaka Arena. Then that will be the only fighting game I need.

Well I was introduced to the fighting game genre at my local 7-11 back when I was in middle school and the game of course was Street Fighter II.

My favorite series of all time is probably Tekken cause of the complex storylines they have and I just like the fighting style of Tekken over other games like SF or MK.  Another one of my all time favorites is Killer Instinct on the SNES.  I never got into the KOF series bout the closest I have is the Fatal Fury series.

Anyone have Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom? Bought it at the beginning of September last year and thought it was really fun. If anyone has it and still wants to play, I'm up for it.

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus headed to PSN and XBLA!!!
Fighting fans, thy Kingdom Hath Come!

EDIT:

Played the PS2 version again to celebrate. I can't believe I've had it for over a year and never played as Order-Sol before. Well, I finally played as him, and now I think he's my new favorite character. Though I think I've said that everytime I've tried as a new character. I can't help it, they're all so gooood! XD

Best crossover fighter ever, I'd say. I love X-Men vs. Street Fighter but MvC has left me cold since the first one; Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is just the right blend of chaos and craft. I really, really love it.

Other than that I am an enormous Virtua Fighter fan and cannot wait for VF5FS. Bring it on, SEGA.

Yeah, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is definitely great, though SNK vs. Capcom 2 will always be #1 in my eyes.

And I enjoyed the demo of VF5 - first time I enjoyed a Virtua Fighter game since 2 - but since it was a 3D fighter I never got around to getting it. I do intend to pick up Final Showdown, however.

Well, Skullgirls is out. Anybody playin' it?

Also, for anyone who has put a lot of Time into Continuum Shift Extend, how does the balance feel? They had it pretty good in Continuum Shift 2, that I'm afraid they may have screwed it all up like they did in Calamity Trigger.

I want to play it, but for some reason my internet is being hellishly slow and it's still downloading. x___x

Tomorrow my team of Valentine and Parasoul shall be unleashed on the unsuspecting masses, ohoho~

Parasoul is DLC only. I'm not even sure if theDLC is ready yet, I only have the demo.

Speaking of which, my thoughts of this game are that it follows the MvC formula too much for my liking - the battle system is just too weird after playing so many other fighters. While I haven't been able to play with every character, it appears that only one character has projectiles, and she's completely overloaded with them, to the point where she can easily spam you with 3 different attacks at once, causing major chip damage as well as making it impossible for certain characters to get near her. This is a huge problem, and I'm honestly not going to buy the full game until this gets remedied. At the very least, they need to take away the attack that goes at an arc. That's what makes it so hard for people to get close.

@MickeyMac I assume you're talking about Peacock Yeah, she spams those projectiles way too much and her blockbuster attack is a guaranteed hit (even from full screen) as a follow up to any attack. Parasoul has a projectile and I think Valentine does too but I can't remember.

What do you mean when you say the battle system is too weird?

Speaking of Parasoul, she's in the game, I was thinking of Umbrella.

And yeah, Peacock. I didn't really get a chance to see her name while she was kicking my butt.

I just fought Valentine, and if she had a projectile move, she didn't use it. But yeah, Parasoul has a projectile (as well as a slightly annoying super, but at least it doesn't do an insane amount of chip damage), but at least it doesn't seem spammable and cuts out right before the end of the screen. Would be nice if at least one of Peacock's moves did that.

As for the battle system, its reliance on command moves rather than special attacks is strange to me. I'll do things that look like specials, only to find out they only required one direction of the D-pad. Specials also seem to be less helpful than in other games, at least from what I've seen in the demo. Supers requiring one rotation of the D-pad and two button presses at once is completely alien outside of Capcom vs. games as far as I know. It's just a lot to get used to after playing so many other games, like Street Fighter, KOF, Guilty Gear, and Blazblue.
