In other words, what is your speculation as to when most people who have the money will be able to go online or into a store and get one for themselves, without fear of bots/scalpers or the system being extensively out of stock everywhere? Spring? Summer? 2022?

I have a feeling it might be the end of the month for online. Bots/Scaplpers are aready losing intrest in the Ps5 according to reports i'm seeing and for instore probably around May or June.

First quarter of this year I'd assume. The prices scalpers are charging have dropped pretty significantly over the last week or so that bodes well for regular gamers too. Probably summer ish before you can walk in Bestbuy and just see a wall of them lined up but I think it will be get increasingly easier to buy them online fairly soon.

Not until March/April I wouldn't have thought. Should be able to pop into a shop around Easter and pick one up if you so wish. Like others have said, the initial interest has started to die down and the prices om eBay etc have begun to drop.

@Mpquikster I don't look in CEX's direction for any kind of indication. I've never bought from them but prices are ridiculous. I once saw a PSVR headset selling for more than it costs to buy new. What's the logic behind that?

TheFrenchiestFry

Probably by February or March things will probably be a lot more quiet

The initial hype for the console seems to be dying down drastically anyway. Whenever drops happen now it seems that they last for like a solid 20 minutes at a time compared to how hellish it was to secure a console in November and early December

@TheIdleCritic Yep you be mad to buy anything that has recently come out from CEX. Older second hand games they are usually cheaper then GAME in my experience

The optimism that you all have is making me feel better!

@Unlucky13 I saw a video that predicted April. I can’t remember the whole reasoning, but it seemed sound. I think part of it was comparing this to the first year of the Wii. I think they said it was almost two years before the Wii became stocked enough to just walk in and buy everywhere.

May sounds good to me. I’ve heard that TVs that can support the PS5 are real expensive right now so waiting till May for both the PS5 and a TV to match sounds about right to me.

The PSVR is the best VR system on the market today.

@Th3solution I guess we'll see. This is obviously a unique situation due to the pandemic. I know that PS4s were readily available in the Spring after it came out. I waited until the next September to get mine because I just didn't want any of the games until then. But they were everywhere in stores for months prior to that.

@Unlucky13 Looks like around 15th - 18th January for the next UK delivery of PS5 consoles.

Feel free to add me on Switch.

@Unlucky13 Yep I walked into my local GAME store in my lunch time the April after the ps4 was released and bought one. Didn't even need to order in advance or anything like that.

@Mpquikster The PS3 box was really big and hefty. I remember putting mine onto the floor in front of the passenger seat of my car on the way home.

I still have 4 years later to see PS5 Slim.

I’m waiting too. Sounds to me like PSVR is going the way of the PSVITA. Too bad, for 2016 it’s a great piece of kit. They really need to upgrade the system big time. It’s got some of the best VR games, so like the VITA it’s worth getting if you don’t have it. Maybe 5 million headsets and 100 million games was not good enough. I’m not sold on the PS5 - lack of a remote play PlayStation handheld and a VR headset are deal breakers for me. Also, Sony censoring games it not too cool also. It’s pissing off many customers who like Japanese games. If the PS5 is the success the PS4 was I will be amazed.

@Total_Weirdo Thanks for that. I'm sure that most retailers will continue to get small amounts that sell out immediately. I'm just waiting for the point where they have them regularly.

You can buy a PS5 right now. It's not like they are only selling them to certain people only. The only thing though is most places are selling them online for now because of the pandemic but everyone still can get one.
