Currently re-downloading Path of Exile 2. I'm bouncing between several games atm. I'm kinda just twiddling my thumbs until I get my Switch 2, then most of my gaming time will be spent on that.

I've decided to play Zenless Zone Zero for the next few weeks. I'm hoping the free to play mechanics don't get in the way of my enjoyment because I love the look and tone of the game and the combat is a lot of fun. I'm hoping I can get through as much of this as I can without feeling like I need to spend money.

Okay, so after finishing the ps2 game Mafia, which was remade for PS4, I decided to try Mafia 2 the PS3 game, slightly upgraded for ps4 and that looks worse than Mafia 1, but I'm playing it on PS5 Pro, so who knows what thread to put it in. But here's my thoughts, regardless 😛

Having said that, and despite it not being a full remake, I feel like I'm already loving the atmosphere and tone of Mafia 2 much more. The dialogue has become even more natural and dynamic, and the characters are feeling pretty realistic early doors. There is something about PS3 era games, it has to be said, too. And I'm definitely feeling some GTA 4 nostalgia vibes with the faux NY setting here.

All in all, I enjoyed Mafia I, but it definitely had some old game reskinned issues, so Mafia 2 still feels like a leap forward in quality and design, even though it's much rougher around the edges without a full remake, and the controls and strafing style movement took a while to get used to.

By Mafia 2 you can kind of feel some early ideas forming for the kind of realism that would become KCD when Vavra, and I assume some of the dev talent from 2k Czech moved over to Warhorse. You can turn on light switches and fans, for example. I don't know if it has any uses yet, but it makes the world feel more real even with these silly little details. I believe in Mafia I at one point you could ignore a checkpoint to do what was hinted at rather than the actual objective too, so I hope that continues in Mafia II.

Good stuff. More crime games please, devs. And let's hope Mafia: The Old Country has some of this old 2k charm in it this summer!

So I've played RAINCODE+ the past few days @Ralizah and I see what you were saying in regards to the pacing.

I don't know how far you got into it but I'm partway through the investigation for chapter 2 and... Shinigami is seriously getting on my nerves right now. Monokuma she is certainly not.

She's annoying me more then the intentionally dislikable Monokubs in v3

Just a little note for KCDII players, the recent patch made everything flash/vanish/materialise but there is a new one (released yesterday) that stops everything flashing and the game looks beautiful again.

It might be time to play the Brushes with Death DLC soon 😁

I’ve been playing DOOM: The Dark Ages. I’m five chapters in and it’s been fun, albeit some things don’t click with me. I really don’t like the flying dragon sections, but thankfully those are few and far between according to what I’ve read. The mech suits are pretty fun though.

@HallowMoonshadow I think that's about where I cut out. Yeah, it's a slog. I may return if there's a Switch 2 patch, but considering it's an older game from a small publisher, I'm not holding out hope.

Shinigami is definitely polarizing, although that bugged me less. Kodaka's games are full of extreme personalities, so I didn't mind her. Honestly, she's more memorable than the rest of the cast. 😂

Ugh. Men.

Back on the Zenless Zone Zero grind before Season Two commences. I haven't played it in months so I've got a lot of catching up to do before then. I've been enjoying it a lot and I'm a little surprised at myself for dropping it when I did.

I was perfectly fine with Shinigami til chapter 2 @Ralizah and she started her incredibly obnoxious jealous girl shtick against Kurumi where every other sentence has been a combination of "flat, uggo & skank" along with Yuma being called a perv incessantly. Which is a shame as the chapter's mystery seems a step up from the previous one!

And yeah I get what you mean in regards to the characters. I actually quite liked the cast on the train that got killed off.

Other then Halara Midnight the other detectives have been disappointing and losing the claustrophobic, intimate setting of the Danganronpa games means the cast doesn't get to bounce off of each other nearly as well.

Playing Dead Space Remake. Love it. I think this is one of the only times that I've playing the remake when i've completed the original game. Made an expection for this as it is one of my favourite games and has been long enough since I've played the original. Some brillaint sound design, and not for the faint of heart lol.

@JohnnyShoulder Dead Space Remake sounds good from what you say. Did you finish LotF? How did you find it overall?

@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN I really enjoyed it. Not as much as top tier FromSoftware, and apart from a couple of bosses not as difficult as those games either. The layout of the world and the Umbral world stuff was my favourite parts of the game.

@Hapless Enjoy it, man! Phenomenal game, and definitely worth getting the platinum for. Probably in my top 5 games this generation.

Still playing Zenless Zone Zero and I'm really enjoying it. I'd go as far as to say it's up there with the Persona games. I'm liking it so much more than I did Metaphor: ReFantazio. There's just so much stuff to do and I enjoy doing all of it.

I’m now in the 13th chapter in Doom: The Dark Ages with a 100% completion rate for each mission. This game freaking rules. I didn’t like the first three chapters, but once things started to open up - the world, weapons, upgrades - it felt like it hit its confidence and hasn’t let up. It’s so good.

I'm done with Zenless Zone Zero, so now I've moved onto Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon. I liked the demo, so it was a pleasant surprise to see randomly show up on the PlayStation Store. So far it definitely seems to scratch that Elder Scrolls itch.

@Jimmer-jammer How are you man? What are you playing at the moment? Been a while since we've spoken.

I booted up Sekiro this morning, still pushing for that 'Shura' ending with Emma/Isshin Ashina as the final boss, I assume you went for Sword Saint Isshin as your final boss? after reading about your struggles on here, I decided to go with the option, of which, the internet consensus, is saying, is the easiest. I am strategising, heavily, looking for weaknesses, opportune moments to strike etc. but yeah the Mortal Blade is definitely op, so that helps a lot!

@Th3solution How are you, man? Did you see the end credits of Star Wars: Outlaws yet? If so, how was it and what are you playing next? If not, where are you up to now?

@BlAcK_Sw0rDsMaN Doing well, thanks. Indeed, I did roll credits on Outlaws and must say that I quite enjoyed it. It definitely scratched a Star Wars itch and I had a good solid time with it. It being heavily stealth driven, it’s different from other games I’ve played recently. Not since the Metal Gear Solid games have I had to invest so much efforts into stealth based combat. I guess Death Stranding also, although the core gameplay there was the traversal/hiking with light stealth intermixed as challenges along the way, whereas in Outlaws nearly every encounter is a big stealth map to tackle.

I have now moved on to Baldur’s Gate 3. I started it the past weekend and have really become engrossed with it. I’m only about 10 hours along, but it’s on track to be a personal all-timer. I’m not sure if you’re very familiar with the game, but even though it’s turn-based and D&D inspired, it shares a common satisfaction to me of how the Souls games make me feel. It inspires one to become heavily invested in making a build and strategizing a character in a similar way to Souls games (and other good RPGs). Don’t get me wrong, it plays nothing like a Souls game, but I was thinking about it while playing it that the level of satisfaction is approaching that of a FromSoft title. I guess it has to do with just how deep it makes you go into the game in order to be successful. It’s the degree of commitment and then subsequent satisfaction with that investment which gives that familiar dopamine rush. It’s hard to explain. Like a Souls game, it’s definitely not a game that a person can just pick up and casually play without some effort to study and analyze.

On my alternating time, I have also played Lost Records: Bloom & Rage. A spiritual successor to the Life is Strange games, it is one of those games where I can shut my brain off and just consume in a very chill, no risk way and ride out the story. It’s also been pretty good. I’m think I’m about half way through the first of two parts.
