Will the ps5 support 1440p output or any down scaling feature for 1440p monitors? Will my 1440p monitor work with the ps5 without needing to use the downscaling property of the monitor or black bars?

@firas7991 Unfortunately Sony hasn't made any official statement on the matter.

We've seen that the Xbox Series S and (probably X, but no official statement) will support 1440p natively, so I can't see how Sony would want to miss out on that market, albeit a small market.

What we know right now is that the PS4 Pro would output 1080p to 1440p monitors, even if it was playing 4K or 1440p games. This is a software issue, that they could have patched in at any given moment, but didn't.

It can go both ways:

  • Games that favor performance over resolution might go for a 1440p/60fps game this next gen. So I actually expect quite a lot of 1440p games. Thus making the chance of Sony supporting it greater.
  • However, they didn't support 1440p on the PS4 Pro, while they could have, which is kind of worrying.

If the PS5 would output to 1080p for 1440p screens, that would be a pretty stupid move. So I expect them to support it, if not at launch, than at least in one of the system's first updates. However, can't guarantee it will.
