@professorhat You can store games on an external USB drive, but you can only play PS4 games and not PS5 games from it. The new expansion drives are gonna be expensive, so these are a good cheaper alternative if you are looking after the pennies.

Well done on finally obtaining a PS5 and welcome to the next gen famalam!

Thanks for the tip - looks like I need to dust off an old USB drive!

@professorhat Welcome to the club!

The data transfer from PS4 is an absolutely doddle but I’d recommend hunting down an Ethernet cable if you don’t have one. There’s a number of different ways to transfer the data across but having a wired connection is by far the quickest.

You can also choose which games to copy across when you’re doing it so don’t worry about deleting games off your PS4 now.

One thing is that the couple of disc based games I’ve played on the console take time to install but, again, the console lets you install one while it’s setting itself up so that will be ready to go as well.

Finally, I never used to play with a headset but the official Pulse headset comes highly recommended from me! It’s super comfortable, has a decent battery life, and (obviously) sounds great.

Enjoy!

Now this is interesting, I had assumed I would just download any PS4 games I wanted to play on the PS5 from my library - is this not the way it's done? I have PS Plus so all my saves are in the cloud, so again, assumed they'd just be there when I logged on.

I do have many ethernet cables so if I have to transfer that way it's not an issue, but didn't think it would be necessary.

@professorhat You could do that and yeah, your saves should be just waiting in the cloud. But there's also an option to transfer data directly from your old console, which would be faster if you're looking to transfer many games. I personally transferred nothing from my PS4

Gotcha, makes sense - thanks!

@professorhat I had four or five games to transfer across and with the wired connection it took about 20 minutes. You can download them again if you want I guess.

Thanks - I thought for a moment you were saying PS4 games had to be copied across if you wanted to play them, which would have been a pain. I'll likely just download the game as and when I feel like playing it rather than copying any over at the beginning, so the fact you can do both is great.

Have fun. My only gripes with PS5 are the size and weight of the Console and lack of storage. I know you can store games on an external HD but you can't play them that way so I'm hoping they rectify this soon.
