@JohnnyShoulder what is the point of that disc if you aren't going to join us all again in the world of the witcher 😉 it would seem rude not to do that, at this point. It will basically be like a brand new game, all for free.

@GirlVersusGame okay, so like comfort gaming, perhaps, as it is one you know it so well? 😄 will the update be enough to tempt you back for one more run?

Is it obvious i'm trying to get everyone to play again 👀

@FuriousMachine can I count on your sword? As you may want to experience the new look and get your saves all sorted ready for next year, and refresh yourself by getting a feel for the game in its new state?

@BearsEatBeets oh, they are doing deep dives already? Wow. I just assumed it was an announcement and then wait until it releases kind of deal, not a full PR dump 😄

@Ravix They are doing daily streams all through Gamescom from their booth. I just finished watching the character bit. The story revolves around Dandelion's family and saw footage and concept art for his grandmother and cousins.
In half hour it's the segment on gameplay and features. It's mostly all surface level chatter as they don't want to spoil anything but I've seen a few short gameplay segments.

@Ravix Right it is comfort gaming but here's another thing. When I said my biggest fear is that future consoles will make games look so realistic, open-worlds will look like real worlds and then I might not be able to play them. The Witcher on PC looked incredible and the 'beast' is the reason why, it did look hyper realistic but I wasn't nervous because I'd already visited that game's world, being non-nervous like that was so rare, so I didn't want to leave, full completion was my way of taking it out back and putting it down because I knew I couldn't stay there forever. This reMaster is to me permission to return.

These violent delights have violent ends & in their triumph die, like fire & powder Which, as they kiss, consume.

@Ravix I appreciate the recruitment effort, but there is just so much else to play between now and then - I probably won't even get the new DLC until way after launch. If I do, though, I will definitely join the gang here.
(Though I will probably boot up the remaster quite quickly to verify my old save works or do the transfer dance if required, but it is very unlikely I will play it for any meaningful amount of time - at least not this side of New Year's)

@Ravix Yeah I've kept the disc for some reason, right? As I do usually trade my games in, but have kept onto a few. Not sure why i've kept onto Injustice on PS4 though. 🤷 I think after 400 hours spent on the game, (not even started any of the expansions, think I do 'own' one of them) I'm not over enthusiastic about going back to it. I don't really go back to games after I've completed them, I have quite a few where I have even bought season passes with all the dlc's included but have not touched them after beating the main game.

I knew someone would do it. Here are all the gameplay clips they played in the livestream.

Pretty awesome news about the remaster as I've wanted to replay the game for ages and thought doing do before/in time for the next DLC would be perfect.

It's also one of those games I've always wanted to get the platinum for as I think I only missed out on the difficulty one and didn't get the Gwent card from the Bloody Barron for the card related trophy either.

@BearsEatBeets so an update on location if you're interested in more. It is Dandelion's homeland, but they have moved where that was kind of supposed to have been. It shouldn't really affect anything, in the books it isn't made an important location, just generally mentioned when discussing where he is from, I think. He'd often be at the king's court in Cidaris, for example, which is also near Kerack where his cousin was based, so it made sense that Lettenhove was around that area logistically. But like I say, it shouldn't matter too much. He has links to Redania and this is quite close now to a Redanian prison fortress, and maybe not far from Tretogor the Redanian capital. Also, the nature of minor nobles and bard's is to travel from court to court, anyway.

@Ravix Cheers. I noticed Lettenhove mentioned in the footage so Letten must be the larger area it sits in (or vice versa) rather than a change. Maybe they have had to tweak how some of the geography works to make it a bit more physically logical for games.

@BearsEatBeets yeah. It was never mapped anyway, and the books were not specific, so it is a free for all, within reason. It is much nearer to where the Witcher 4 will be set, too, which makes it interesting.

When I thought it was going to be in a slightly different area (based on one day of them mentioning Letten) it made me think Brokilon forest would be a part of it. But these woods they have teased seem mysterious enough as it is 😄 it may be another case of 'inspired by the books, but an all new twist on the idea to make something new'

I still want to know how Ciri becomes a Witcher, there's no way she does the trials of the grasses right? And I would also assume that she loses her elder blood otherwise she would be way too OP if she has that in W4.

@Oram77 I always take Vesimir and Geralt's conversation from the books:

"Do you believe a child of destiny would pass through the trials without danger?"

"We believe such a child would not need the trials."

  • Andrjez Sapkowski, Blood of Elves

Ciri also spent her youth being secretly fed the mushrooms and herbs kind of recklessly by the witchers until Triss gave them a slap.

The only mild contention point is in the trailer she had cats eyes. But it might just have to be a thing because a Witcher game needs a witcher, Ciri is the only logical witcher to choose, the eyes are kind of important to the look for the CDPR games, so some mutations will need to happen.

It is hardly a concern though, like Sapkowski often doesn't bother explaining any of his magic and lore, he's more of a vibes guy. Most of what is actaully said about witchers is based on encyclopedia and propaganda texts released either to turn the public against them, or written hundreds of years after the fact, too. So there are loads of outs to say "well this bit wasn't documented yet" or "no one tried on a child of the elder blood before" or "it was all kept secret between Geralt, Yen and Ciri"

Loose zero effort guess: She survives some adapted form of the trial and it messes with her abilities, because... some magic reasons that they can expand on. I mean, they could literally say "she can mutate herself" and it would be fine as long as they expand on it in their story 😅

What got me during the announcements was people were acting like CDPR won't have even thought about it, or written it into their lore and thought deeply about how to make it work in a way that is compelling to us as the player. People just said "no, she can't and CDPR are stupid and mean and bad"

@Oram77 @Ravix

I very much agree with your take on this Ravix. I also feel whatever the process they have come up with is going to be a big part of the early story so they are not going to spoil it by explaining it now. It also makes total sense for Ciri that if something came along that could rid her of her Elder Blood powers she would absolutely jump at it. She wants nothing more than to live a more normal life/witcher life.

Gonna have to skip viewing this thread for now. Too much book talk and potential spoilers for the games for me.

@JohnnyShoulder don't worry I will keep things incredibly vague, and would spoiler tag anything actually important to future games or anything like that. It is literally just location and mostly irrelevant stuff that is mentioned in passing.

@BearsEatBeets I had Cockle and Schwab on in the background, and they were a delightful listen. Schwab is actually a musician too, and I couldn't remember Dandelion doing much singing or anything, so far, which felt weird when I thought about it 😅

@Ravix After posting the schedule I ended up missing most of it myself. I caught some of the Q&A bit but nothing remarkably new came out of it. I've seen good comments about the Cockle & Schwab bit so I will go back through the stream and find that section at some point.

I was going to ask if his Dandelion's brother Gustav and cousin Lilla were already mentioned in the books but realised I could just google it and it seems they are CDPR creations.

@BearsEatBeets plenty of time to read the books (or listen) before Songs of the Past. Wouldn't you say? 😉 maybe you should consult @th3solution who I tricked into consuming the audiobooks this past year 😄

When they were talking about Geralt and Dandelions friendship on the stream today I was just absorbed, it is something best experienced as the games haven't yet delved that deep into their pairing, and reading the books will make it so much more real to anyone, i'm certain. It is hard to describe, but by Baptism of Fire you will know how well written each relationship is within the series. The books have some of the most realistic relationship dynamics. And yet, no, they don't really talk about their pasts much, it is all the moment that matters to them, and that is how Sapkowski tends to write. This is why the game will be exciting, it is all untapped potential. But to experience their bond, and Dandelion's place in the universe, the books are so worth it.

People when asked about what they would like to see written next often state a desire for more of Geralt and Dandelion's first adventures. And now i'm even more excited for the expansion next year because we get the games delving into their current game universe adventures, and now the wait for it feels even longer, drat!

@Ravix As previously mentioned, I do have all the books (bar the very recent young Geralt one). They are tucked away and would require some effort to dig out (long story but a lot of my stuff is stored away) but it's something I may consider.
I thought they may reveal the release date with ONL but it seems they don't want to commit to one yet. I'm still inclined to think it will be the first few months next year.
