@CaptD yeah Gamescom has always seemed more like something to go to rather than interesting to watch for reveals. This expansion changes all that.
I recently finished playing through again to get in the mood for it but saved starting the existing expansions for the time being.
I'm guessing this is going to be released sometime early next year but who knows, maybe they will surprise us with an imminent release.

Does anyone know if the remaster upgrade carries saves over from the original game? I suspect that the remaster is required for Songs of the Past and playing through the entire game again is simply not an option for me.

Ravix

@FuriousMachine I think every update they ever made included a way to transfer saves. My saves were from PS4 originally, but then on PS5 upgrade it allowed at least one of those save files via their online service thing. I think i've imported a save from multiple consoles in different ways, but definitely you could upload to their server and redownload on a new console, and you get a new version number when entering that save and it, I guess, rewrites it from that moment with relevant patches, upgrades etc. I won't officially state it as fact, though. Just from my experience so far, there was always a way despite there being completely new game version numbers/build versions. I do remember it being a bit fiddly at first, for some reason, though. But once synced the save upgraded

@BearsEatBeets was going to look up all relevant details for the remaster and I assume post a dossier for us all here πŸ˜„ so they might know more from the source on that.

@FuriousMachine
I suspect your saves will work just fine, as Ravix stated you might need to use the online service to export and then import your save data.
But if all else fails then you can you the β€œaccelerator” feature which was created for people to jump in the dlc without previous saves, it creates a prelevelled character (level 35 I think which is end game level).

@Ravix Had some stuff to do right after the stream but just rewatched both videos and scouring for info πŸ˜„.

@FuriousMachine Nothing to share just yet but as the previous posts have mentioned I'm pretty confident CDPR will have a way for you to jump straight into the new Expansion.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt β€” Songs of the Past is an upcoming expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt from CD PROJEKT RED and Fool's Theory. Players will once again take on the role of Geralt of Rivia and journey to the brand new region of Letten β€” a seemingly idyllic land that hides a dark secret beneath its peaceful surface. Equipped with new abilities and a new weapon, the chain, Geralt will face never-before-seen foes, reunite with old friends, and embark on a gripping adventure filled with difficult decisions and meaningful consequences.

@Ravix, as our book expert, has Letten featured before at all? I can't say I have heard that place mentioned.

The only other slither of info so far, the Remaster was handled by an outside studio Yigsoft

Yigsoft is a AAA co-development company from Hungary founded in 2021 and has since been cooperating with CD PROJEKT RED on titles such as Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition

September 4th, Rebel Wolves release The Blood of Dawnwalker. September 29th, we get a really new looking Witcher 3. 2027 new TW3 DLC (their DLC is usually like a separate game) and 2028 TW4? Good times.

I'm going to watch the trailer again, as I wasn't concentrating completely. But I know the dude on stage mentioned Path Tracing. I assume that will be PC only, but it will be a huge upgrade for those that get it.

I already enjoyed some light RT in 30fps for TW3, but this upgrade seems to make the textures better, and the style more in line with the Unreal Engine design they have for TW4. Incredibly interesting for such an old game to keep getting updates like that.

It will be interesting to see what they do with PSSR if that is on the table? Every time CDPR says they won't do something they seem to find a way to then go and do it anyway. And I can imagine some of the Cyberpunk tweaks have helped (or were because of) this Witcher update being in the works?

Remake trailer:

Songs of the Past:

Ps5 Pro support is confirmed in the scrolling text.
Cross platform mod support.
Path tracing confirmed as PC only (expected)

@BearsEatBeets would you like this Fool's theory?

I'm about to rewatch SotP trailer, so i'll write this before I do, having seen your post. To me, Letten instantly makes me think of Lettenhove. As in, Julian Alfred Pankratz, Viscount de Lettenhove, I.e Dandelion. And your question immediately put the thought in my head that this place will not be a real place. It will be like a delusion or a trap. Which that description kind of feels like on the surface anyway (not all is as it seems etc) again, just this Fool's theory. But Songs, Dandelion being featured on the initial reveal, and Letten... Come on, now. Something is afoot, and The Bard is the key. Maybe, maybe not. But we shall see.

Anyway... Yeah, it is not a place i've heard of. But it is to any book reader obviously the first part of Lettenhove. Maybe coincidence, maybe not. There's not a lot about Lettenhove area in the books, more the name. But when he is visiting an area where his cousin is, they are in the now defunct kingdom of Kerack, which is built on elven grounds and near to Brokilon forest, home of the Dryads.

I'd expect maybe Dryads, Brokilon and maybe even plague to feature in themes. But we shall see. Letten could be CDPR's new locale that contains Lettenhove, and the surrounding areas as a way if making it feel like it fits that part of the map. Or it could be some weird stuff at play. Who knows, Ciri might have time travelled Geralt and Co to a different time (the past πŸ˜…) meaning old/lost names for places can be used as a cheat to make stuff up. I don't know, maybe the past is more about the past of that specific place, maybe a tragedy that has turned the whole area into this creepy fantasy world. Maybe the tragedy was a slaughter of elves or dryads on a specific place. Maybe it was the plague that wiped out a whole area and turned it freaky when they all seeped into the soil. Who knows πŸ˜›

I'm excited for whatever it is, though

Are you kidding me they are remastering it again? I knew I missed some things when my feed went down but this was completely unexpected, I already did one-hundred percent on PS4, PS5 and PC. They even enhanced photo-mode, and September as in that soon?

@GirlVersusGame Yuuuuup! What is one more playthrough? Other than a good time... πŸ˜› and was there anything specific that made this a game you completed 100% on so many occasions? Apart from it being really good.

@th3Solution I now know when your Witcher 3 playthrough begins, Sol 😁 and maybe I will join you

@Ravix It loops back into what I said before about needing that one-hundred percent to feel the 'well done', the platinum ding, then I knew I was done. It got easier per-playthrough because Blood and Wine meant I could go there early and Dark Souls my way through harder enemies for better rewards and return to the start of the main game with a full deck of the Gwent cards, my pockets were full of silver and gold, weapons, XP, the rest of the game even on Death March then became very streamlined. If a game allows me to fight something thirty+ levels higher I do it. In Conan I started fighting an alligator, a friend on chat said they were off to work, they returned hours later, still fighting Mr alligator. It died, I gained so many levels, it was worth it.

@Ravix Woah, we were just talking about doing a W3 playthrough so it was a good call to wait! It will be much better to start one on the new Remaster instead, especially since it’s around the corner. I’d have been bummed if I started playing this weekend and invested a bunch of hours only to see that a better (arguably?) version is about to come out.

And the fact it’s a free upgrade, like the PS5 version was, is amazing. CDPR are role models for the rest of the industry. Keeping the customers happy and then we’ll be much more prone to buy the DLC and sequel. You know they could have charged $20 for a remaster (or more) and people would buy it, but maintaining positive goodwill with their fanbase was more important. Hmm… I wonder what game company could learn from this lesson… πŸ€”

Edit: πŸ˜‚ just simul-posted with you.

Edit 2: The siren song of the Witcher will be lulling you away from that GTAVI trash. 😜

Also, I was just loading up The Time of Contempt today after reading a summary review of Blood of Elves last night. I’m about to start the audiobook on the way home right now!

@GirlVersusGame well, yeah. I know that part plays into it. But the same game on multiple platforms to the same extent each time is a step above your norm, is it not? like was it the gameplay or characters or the world that kept you coming back to that for more completion runs of that game specifically? Or maybe it was looting all the broken rakes? not as good as cheeses, but still 😁

@Th3solution all of September The Blood of Dawnwalker, all of October The Witcher. It feels tempting. Like I said with TW3 I don't mind if I don't do a full replay, but just get used to how it feels again alongside you playing it for the first time proper, and then maybe pick it up at a later point from my old save when I know what I was doing at that point. The main goal is that YOU play it πŸ˜„

I don't think we were planning on the surprise PS5 Pro support, so that has worked out nicely. 60fps RT, perhaps? An unlocked mode?🀞 Last time I was using the 30fps RT mode and it looked stunning and it played fine anyway, so that in 60 would be fantastic, but they added all new animations and all kinds of fancy tweaks so maybe i'll choose 30 again if it is still the best looking way to play. Transmog, is huge, too, and it means at the soonest opportunity I will be acquiring some New Moon armour (the most 'Leather Jacket' of all the armours) If i'm not fighting in just a shirt, or even shirtless, that is. Sidestep/backstep dodge is all the armour you need (or it was when I was good at the game πŸ˜…) I even made up some kind of general combat rule... strafe with guard up, dodge attacks, roll to close distances, always look to parry and block humans. It made the combat flow better for me. I am just not a fan of Iframes and dodgerolls in general (sorry Fromsoft) and it made it look more like swordfighting rather than it feeling too gamey. I think a roll vs some monsters makes sense if they have a large reach and you are rolling under or around an attack rather than through, but yeah, I see Geralt as a swordsman, and so I will try to move as one as much as possible and rolling vs a human? Nah, Eat my Aard! (You will feel like a Jedi when you get into the flow of things) my bad, I will save my witcher coaching class for when it is time πŸ˜›

Awesome, I guess a summary review helps when audiobook is your first contact with it and sets up the next part nicely? Ooh, since I already did my full audio rerun, maybe I'll sneak a listen to some of those Peter Kenny tones just to get a feel of where you are at again. It genuinely all blurs together for me, so a little refresh just to get an idea of the journey you are about to go on on your literal journey home seems tempting for some background noise. Enjoy πŸ˜„

  • With a lot of games I buy them on Steam, PS5 and sometimes Switch. I think the experience is different because PC is more solitary and a little more, I'm not sure of the word, on PC I get more drawn in. With console I'm generally playing in a different room and not alone, I'm not fully focused on the game itself, it's still completion but the experience is different. Then there's the actual hardware, I don't know nor can I name my PC specs, I do know people use 'beast' for how it performs. Games do play and look better on PC, as long as you have the hardware, etc. The Witcher on PC for me was a deeper connection to the game, it pulled me right in and I wanted to do and see it all again.

I'd already played the PS4 version and did the same thing again because I knew PC was that step-up in performance. The PS5 version dropped and I wanted to test the power of the console. I much prefer console, it's more social, He can read the paper, drink, etc and I just sit on the floor beside his chair and play, it started that way to make sure no one was messaging me but then it became a really comfortable way to play. The Witcher is like I said before a very Eastern European game, I recognize a lot of elements, we talked about that aspect before, returning that third time felt like returning to a place that I knew, a world that I didn't have to wall-hug my way through, I knew the map like the back of my hand. Having that rare something, where an open-world doesn't result in anxiety was so rare, I wanted to keep playing, that meant full completion because that one-hundred percent tells me I'm done.

That is really good that they are making it all available for OG owners. I doubt i will be jumping back into the game however, even though I've still kept onto my PS4 disc.

I don’t see myself jumping back on this tbh. Combat was super jank and I can’t be arsed with more Geralt. I’d rather wait for Witcher 4.

Talking about the expansion today

They put up a schedule (EDIT: Forgot these are CET times so remove an hour for UK)

11:15 - 12:00 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past | Story and World overview [ENG]

12:30 - 13:15 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt β€” Songs of the Past | Characters and Monsters overview [ENG]

13:45 - 14:30 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt β€” Songs of the Past | Gameplay and Features overview [ENG]

@Ravix you were right Letten is Dandelion's birthplace and clearly plays a role.

They showed some gameplay of Geralt waking after the festival and riding around the new region a bit.
