Played a little bit more today and wow the side quests are just fantastic. I'm still at Barren Light with almost 14 hours on the clock. Gave the wife the t.v. but I'll hopefully be back on later before going to bed. If only we didn't have to sleep and work eh! 😂

@velio84 Sorry that happened to you, something I've never done. Even with the PS4 I always save, go to title screen, home screen, close game then power off. Only ever put consoles in rest mode for downloading stuff and charging pads!

Hopefully they will iron out these things pretty quickly but for me personally it's been a fantastic experience both running the game and content wise also.

Sounds like it might be better to hold off for patches to address bugs. I ALWAYS keep my PS4 in rest mode when it's not being used. Same with my Switch, 3DS, and Vita. I can't imagine going back to the days where you had to boot up games from the start menu on consoles. I already have to do that on PC, and it sucks.

Ugh. Men.

As someone who doesn’t necessarily value a game’s narrative as much as many do these days, I’ve enjoyed the plot-twists/tangents that have begun to happen (I’m probably around 15 hours in). It’s a direction that I didn’t imagine that they’d take the series in but it’s definitely grabbed my interest.

As far as bugs are concerned… I’ve experienced a little texture pop-in here and there (not a great deal though) but not much else. I thought that I was gonna get trapped in the scenery at one point where I seemed to drop in to a crevice between a rock and a hard place but I quickly mashed ‘jump’ and I just sort of performed a much larger leap that Aloy is normally capable of and landed on the ground the safe-side of the rock. Touches wood that my luck with the lack of issues continues.

@Ralizah I’d definitely say wait for patches, the price will come down too. It’s a decent game, very much a slight iteration of the first one but plays well. The bugs are actually quite a bit more widespread than I thought, I run into little issues the more I play. We’re just used to a certain level of polish with these exclusives, particularly last gen. The PS5 exclusives so far that I’ve played have been quite a bit more buggy than the PS4 ones.

Haven't experienced any bugs so far, about six hours in. Familiar yet different, still very much Horizon but doesn't feel as if it's hit it's stride yet.

Definitely going to enjoy my time with this game, exploring the world, visiting new places and meeting new people and, of course, taking down new machines.

Playing this and Cyberpunk back to back, certainly not interested in Elden Ring, that's a step too far.

😉

@Col_McCafferty It sure is excellent. I've only just done the main quest that lets you out into the forbidden west and left it there for tonight and I'm 15 hours in. Just like in the first game I enjoy going hunting. Find it so satisfying taking down the machines!

Octane

Got the first Tallneck, that was definitely more fun than those in the first game. It was a whole puzzle on its own. If the others are like this, great!

I should have put this down hours ago but one thing literally leads to another and here I am 6 hours later. No bugs experienced in that time though and that’s after using test mode a few times today.

The last thing I did was advance the main quest and… 🤯

Really wishing the multiple choice dialogue options had one that was just Aloy actually admitting her faults and apologising. I have no idea why she continues to act consistently horrible to every single character she comes across.

@nessisonett It’s a bit of a dissonance between her offering help to everyone she meets and being very impatient and somewhat disrespectful towards those who would delay her in any way.
Not that I mind it too much, just think it’s very videogamey

@Voltan @nessisonett The world is in trouble no time for being nicey nice. I mean look at Greta Thunberg. I'm enjoying Aloy's exchanges some of them have gave me a good chuckle so far!

@colonelkilgore It really does today. In my case it's mostly because I moved around some stuff in the bedroom yesterday and my cat didn't love it so he decided to be a total gremlin throughout the night
🥱 😴

@MightyDemon82 My point is that it seems to be totally ok to spend a couple days helping randoms but the minute it's somebody else saying you have to wait 5 minutes, she suddelny remembers how important the main quest is
But as I said, I don't actually mind - and I actually appreciate that gives her some much needed personality.

@Voltan well without wanting to salt-the-wound, I had a great nights sleep myself… but just want to be taking down dinobots! 😁

@colonelkilgore I have the entire week off… whoohoo but I’ve got to spend it doing things with the family… also whoohoo but with slightly less gusto. Going to hopefully fit some in around the non gaming activities.

@Voltan As I played till 2am last night and then got woken up by a bunch of server alarms at 5am I was still sleeping at 8. The wife and kids were downstairs so who did our two cats pester for food? Me!!! Oh well I needed to get out of bed 😆

@render yeah family likes to book my free time too… I managed to get very little time on Horizon Forbidden West on Saturday or Sunday and the missus has already pre-booked my activities for my day off this week. Gonna try and get an hour in at lunch times and maybe another hour after work… but with a game like this, I really need a session time to be no less than 3 hours.

Btw, I'm amazed how many new types of machines have already been introduced and I imagine this is not nearly all of them (since the majority of the map remains covered in fog).
They're all very well designed and the big ones (like the shellsnapper or widemaw, which I thought was a weapon trait in Returnal) are really intimidating

The story is very Netflix budget Sci Fi but then so was the first one, I wasn't expecting a revolution in this regard.

The voice acting is far more convincing this time around, Sylens is an early standout, and the transitions from action to dialogue are less jarring, though still not feeling completely natural. It is perfectly serviceable though.

I quite like Varl and his wide-eyed naivety, it's charming, and allows for some exposition without it feeling too on the nose.
