I’ve only ever seen this chic cover retro before… but I reckon she covers this Black Myth Wukong debacle pretty much perfectly tbh. And she’s definitely a SEGA gal if anything, I’ve never seen any subjectivity from her in terms of PlayStation and Xbox previously, and from past expiry her content would consider this a fairly objective barometer:

@PorkChopExpress if you’re interested in retro gaming at all, you could do a far sight worse that check out her YouTube channel Lady Decade. Lots of decent content there.

In regards to BMW running on a Steam Deck and not on an Xbox, there was a lot of chat about the lack of memory in the Series S being the culprit back from Summer Game Fest last year and then confirmed by the devs last week. They made mention of the series S’ split 10gb of memory (it’s actually only 8 for gaming purposes) being the issue. All Steam Deck’s have 16gb of memory, like the series X and PS5. So as far as the information provided by the devs themselves, it does seem to tally.

There are obviously many other theories out there though, one of which I found interesting is that Game Science were experiencing issues optimising the game on both PlayStation and Xbox and reached out to both companies for assistance. Apparently Sony sent out their Blackbelts straight away and were able to implement some resolutions to the issues that the developers were facing, while Microsoft never even responded. Then when the game was announced for PlayStation and PC only, at Summer Game Fest, Microsoft did get on the phone.

Now I’ve heard a lot of people confirming the above over the passed few months and am inclined to believe it… but where this takes an interesting turn is from a theory I heard just yesterday. One of the videos I watched yesterday postulated that when the Sony Blackbelts implemented the solutions to the issues on PlayStation, they stated that none of what they did to help Game Science could be used to optimise the Xbox version… as they work for Sony to help get 3rd party games optimised for PlayStation and obviously not for Microsoft.

Now I don’t know if that second part is true or not but… it is possible I guess… and what with the strikingly similar architecture between the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, Sony essentially ‘patenting’ optimisation solutions would make it incredibly difficult for Game Science and any subsequent Microsoft Blackbelts to find alternate solutions.

I dunno… I have no experience in the industry, nor the field from purely a hobbyist perspective either… but I did find it interesting.
