If I say I like SONY, XBOX gamers jumpy down my throat. If I say I like XBOX, SONY gamers jump down my throat. If I say I like NINTENDO, I get laughed at by both, and if I say I like SONY and XBOX, NINTENDO fans call me shallow and say I only like games because of graphics...............................................
What happened?
Gamers used to be united, we liked games regardless of what system they came from. We had our preferences sure, but we didn't bastardize everyone that doesn't play the games we like, on our console of choice. Gaming is gaming, and I love the passion the industry has for its consumers, but it isn't enough for the consumer. As a people gamers have become greedy, nothing is good enough. Our standard isn't just too high, it's ridiculous. Gone are the days of being content, every game just makes someone angry. Why can't we be friends? Gaming has never been so aggressive, we call gaming a war now. Console wars. The market is super aggressive now more than ever. And the gamers themselves are even more aggressive. I can't play a round of call of duty without being called something outrageous.
SONY is the host to some awesome first party titles or exclusives. We have GOD OF WAR, THE LAST OF US, INFAMOUS, KILLZONE, UNCHARTED and that's to only name a few
MICROSOFT is the host to some awesome first party titles and exclusives as well such as HALO, FABLE, DEAD RISING, TITANFALL, a slew of awesome arcade games.
NINTENDO is the host to great first party as well, THE LEGEND OF ZELDA, MARIO, METROID, F ZERO, STAR FOX, KID ICARUS, DONKEY KONG among many, many more.
I love all of these various titles mentioned, and I love the companies more, individually from one another. They all bring something unique to the table.
NINTENDO is focused primarily on family friendly games, though not always, but they make games that will be remembered for generations, and that anyone can play.
MICROSOFT makes more hardcore style games, though they do have family friendly. But when I think XBOX I think about playing an awesome shooter online.
SONY focuses more on power. Something that is clearly evident with the PS4. It looks gorgeous. I feel as if SONY makes games of all kinds, I can't be pinned down exactly, but when I think RPG, or open world I definitely think SONY.
These companies are separate from one another, but all of them have something different to offer. In the end, isn't that what we want? Choices? Selection? Instead of being so aggressive towards one another, why can't we accept that our gaming needs are met by different companies? I like pizza, doesn't mean you have to. But don't make me feel bad for liking it. so I ask again, why can't we be friends?
We're all friends here! Some people just like to validate their opinion, which is where the bickering stems from. In the end, I think it's fine to favour a specific brand, but it's the people who feel the need to discredit other ones that's the problem.
It's been this way since the beginning of time, mind - SEGA does what Nintendon't, etc.
@get2sammyb I understand expression of opinions is good, and I am all for it. bickering is a part of gaming, but I've seen people threaten to kill people because of an argument. not on this site, we are all pretty friendly here. this thread was not aimed at pushsquare or it's other sites. I also understand representing your preferred product but jamming it down peoples throats and calling them stupid because the prefer something else is just stupid.
If you give a someone the ability to form an opinion, some idiot will always try to use it as a "fact" to feel superior and smarter than others. Even though that person is the idiot. And I don't think gamers have been united ever since they had two games, and could bicker about which one is better.

I was actually thinking about this the other day, and how old consoles eventually manage to 'escape' this sphere of irrational hatred. By this, I mean that there is a trend that retro consoles are loved by all - regardless of the manufacturer - because they are no longer in the spotlight. Think about it; once upon a time, machines such as the SNES, Mega Drive, N64, Saturn, PS2, Dreamcast, GCN, etc were ALL part of the 'console war' - fanboys from opposing 'sides' declared their hatred for the 'competition', as magazines and (eventually) websites took part in this childishness. Yet today, all this machines are universally loved, because we now see them for what they really are - great machines with awesome games. They are no longer the focus. They are now relegated to history - and history is safe from the crazy, irrational present.
It'll be the same with Wii U, PS4 and Xbox One. Hell, when the Wii was in its prime, it was loathed for its 'casual' games - but now I'm noticing that many gamers are doing a 180, and are now calling it 'underrated' and 'overlooked'. Sigh...

Just because people like one product more than the other, that doesn't make anyone an idiot, it's just what they like. there are clicks everywhere and if anyone were to tell me they like both consoles equally, they are liars. No matter what, you will always lean more to one side compared to the other, there are no saints in this case.
There are people that like Chevy's, people that like Dodge, ford, mazda, etc etc. It's no different then the console wars. Same goes for motorcycles, in fact the click is so bad in motorcycles that you have Harley Davidson Fans that ride sportsters while the HD bagger riders make fun of them because they are also in their own little click. As for gamers, even on the console you like, you got RPG fans, FPS fans, etc etc. They will also "rag" on the gamers even on the same console. It's entertainment and that's all it is. This really shouldn't get anyone upset.
I like the PS4, I have no reason at all to get an Xbox One, I mainly play on the PS4 and PC. For consoles, I could say I'm a Sony/PS4 fanboy. I'm not ashamed of it.

@Demi_God: So people who like one product aren't idiots but people who do like two consoles are liars???
Well I equally like the Wii U and the PS4, does that make me a liar no just makes me a gamer.
yes. If you had to pick one, which one would it be? The answer you pick is going to be the console that you lean more towards. So in this case, it's not equal and yes, you would be lying. You are not a saint and anyone that says equally they like both or all consoles the same, I believe they are full of it. You will always like one more then the other, unless you are perfect and that really isn't the case here. The only answer you could pick to make people believe you like both equally is that you wouldn't pick either console.
Honestly, I wish people in the gaming community would just stop beating around the bush. You can have both, you can like both consoles or all of them, but you can't like them all the same, again, you will always lean more towards one side be it PS4, PC, Xbox, and Nintendo. Tasuki, the point is, is your not a fanboy, but it's clear you will lean more towards one console and all that means is you like that console.

Were gamers ever united? The console 'war' I remember the most because it was the era I was really getting into gaming was the 16-bit one. I had a Genesis, some of my friends also had Genesis, plenty of others had SNES. We'd get together at somebody's house on the weekend, depending what console was available to us we'd enjoy games on either one, but as kids there were always friendly little jabs and stuff could get a little heated from time to time as well, depending how far some would go with the insults. The N64/PSone era also had people arguing about what console was better. The internet hadn't blown up so it didn't seem that bad. It's definitely not as fun as the schoolyard arguments with friends were though.
