If you had to choose three soundtracks that made you cry, emotional or just deeply touched you, which ones would you pick?
Mine would go like this (random order):
-> Beyond Two Souls: Jodie's Story
-> Beyond Two Souls: Norah
-> Detroit Become Human: Freedom March

Also, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas ^_^

@Divergent95 Having never played Beyond: Two Souls, I've never heard its soundtrack, but I own and regularly listen to the Detroit: Become Human score. "Freedom March" is very powerful. There are a couple more tracks from Markus' story which get me every time.

Medal of Honor had some weighty tracks in amongst all the action. "One Man Can Make a Difference" from Medal of Honor: European Assault packs a punch.

There are also many musical moments from the Mass Effect trilogy and Metal Gear Solid games, almost too many to count. I have also been caught off-guard listening to tracks from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Killzone 2 (of all things), Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and even a handful of Sonic games. Mostly because of melancholy, but sometimes I'm reacting to a triumphant crescendo or theme, so they're happy tears.

@nessisonett Are you talking about the VA? It's not like Eggman is dead.

This, Nevermore from Persona 4, and all the Minecraft songs. I just really like Mario Galaxy, finishing Persona 4 made me feel dead inside for about 2 weeks, and the Minecraft songs are sad.

@RogerRoger Those are some excellent ones indeed! I for one think that video game soundtracks are criminally underrated and generally ignored by both the critics and the gaming community as a whole. But I do have to recommend Beyond: Two Souls, especially if you enjoyed Detroit Become Human. It's a bit more restrictive when it comes to choices (compared to Detroit), but overall I think it's a super emotional journey, especially when the MC meets her mother for the first time.

I love the Super Mario soundtracks! Nintendo sure does know how to do music properly without making it too cheesy xD
Satoru-san was a great man, and a great businessman, which we both lack in today's climate I guess..

@Divergent95 Honestly, video game soundtracks aren’t overrated at all in the music community. Especially on RateYourMusic. Persona 5 is the highest rated acid jazz album on the entire site, which is a bit of a travesty despite that soundtrack being really brilliant. The Silent Hill soundtracks and all of Uematsu’s works are extremely high too along with the Nier Automata soundtrack.

Grandma's Theme from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is quite an emotional tune. It's warm and comforting, and sounds like a grandma's love for her grandchild, but also tinged with sadness. In the game both of her grandchildren go missing, leaving her heartbroken. It's a little harder to listen to since my last grandparent died a few years ago.

Lazy Afternoons from Kingdom Hearts II - It only plays in Roxas's part of Twilight Town. It's such a bittersweet tune; the sound of spending the dying days of summer with friends you know you won't see again.

My personal top 3 video game soundtracks would be from:

Kingdom Hearts III (literally every song, because of Yoko Shimomura’s amazing work, but especially the Kingdom Hearts III rendition of Dearly Beloved and “Nachtflugel” from the game’s Re Mind DLC)

Final Fantasy VII Remake (again, literally every song in that soundtrack as well)

Final Fantasy XV (yet again, literally every song is amazing, but especially “Apocalypsis Aquarius”)

“They can take your world, they can take your heart, cut you loose from all you know. But if it’s your fate, then every step forward will always be a step closer to home.”

— Sora’s Opening Words from Kingdom Hearts III

@Kingdom_Hearts95 Somnus from FFXV’s soundtrack is really quite brilliant, in fact that’s a really solid soundtrack from start to finish. The only annoying thing was that the same song played every single time you summoned, meaning I just stopped summoning when I got sick of the song.

The Final Fantasy IX soundtrack.
Everybody's Gone To The Rapture soundtrack.
That song from Final Fantasy XV when you go on a little adventure with one of your bros (after you camp).

@Divergent95 As somebody who listens to nothing but game, movie and TV scores, I'm totally with you there. The quality of composition, as well as execution, has skyrocketed this past generation, to the point where some game soundtracks have surpassed their mainstream contemporaries.

I went looking through my library last night, and found dozens more examples I'd forgotten about. When I'm passing through later, I'll link a few tracks.

And thanks for the recommendation regarding Beyond: Two Souls. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Detroit (which was my first, and currently only, David Cage game) so it wouldn't be a stretch to check out some of his previous work. I have Heavy Rain in my PS4's Library, since it was free on PS Plus once, but hear it's quite grim and mature in parts, so I'm waiting for the right mood.

The Last of Us Part II has some particularly moving tracks.

Death Stranding in particular BB's Theme.

Ah and Elizabeth's Theme from BioShock Infinite especially when it segues into Will The Circle Be Unbroken.

Oh and tons of stuff from Red Dead Redemption 2.

As promised / threatened, some specific samples from me (sorry, I went well over three, but these have been narrowed down from a good two-dozen).
