I'm a huge PlayStation guy all the way and all the exclusives to me are so much better than Xbox exclusives, but I must admit the only area where Sony doesn't have down pat is the fps genre I mean killzone is great but after two I think that it went down hill, but any ways what do you guys think does don't need a goof competitive fps game.
I agree!! Though i would prefer RPGs. I think a good modern day FPS would be awesome and i would defiantly be on board. I will continue to wait for Fallout 4 but i really would enjoy a competitive modern day or even Vietnam based FPS.

I've been thinking about this. With the likes of Call of Duty and Battlefield dominating this space, I think Sony's better off fleshing out other areas of the market. It's not going to beat those big guns, so why not try to support the multiformat games with co-marketing deals and (shudder) exclusive DLC, and use its own first-party studios to come up with new and interesting stuff that stands out from the crowd?

Not only this, for the most part. But really? I think PS4 needs to cover the more dormant genres.

I think the competitive Multiplayer part of Killzone Shadow Fall is highly underrated and still a blast to play. Also the crucible in Destiny is awesome. But I get where you're coming from and as Sammy said I don't believe that there is much room (sales-wise) besides EA's and Activisions beasts, no matter how half-assed or repetitive they are. Destiny could have filled that void if it wasn't cut short so bad (and yes its no exclusive).
Personally I think there are too many FPS games already out there. Everything seems to be a FPS these days. I'd rather have some fresh wind in the RPG genre for example, mix it up with FPS elements (thinking Mass Effect here). What I think would be really needed these days is a big new franchise people want to invest time and money in. Oh wait, that should have been Destiny... again... yes I am butthurt about it.
As someone mentioned before me, the thing Guerilla Games is cooking up might be something special.
Also, if Planetside 2 survives the long overdue transition from PC to PS4 well, this might just be the exclusive epic-scale FPS game everyone's been waiting for.

Everything is open world nowadays, not FPS, that was before
It's a good point, CoD and BF do dominate the space.
That said, Killzone Shadow Fall's multiplayer easily outshines the most recent BF and CoD Ghosts.
I have high hopes for Advanced Warfare, it looks fast, great scope for movement etc. Just a slight step towards a UT style game.
If money for an FPS goes anywhere from Sony. They should give it to Epic. Even the UT3 PS3 conversion was brilliant. I'd love to get UT4 built from the ground up on PS4.

Didn't they try this with MAG on the PS3? I dunno if it was good or not, but considering I never heard much about it post release I just assume it didn't take off.
I'm personally indifferent to FPS games, but I wouldn't mind if they tryed it, except the only way I see it working is if it stood out from COD and Battlefield, and I've always thought making a unique FPS can be a challenge.

MAG was actually great! I had a lot of fun playing it, but it didn't last all that long. The lobbies dried up relatively quickly. I hoped once the Japanese launch happened and it was put on the Essentials line that things might get better. But sony killed the servers soon after that.

That stinks. I hate seeing games with potential go to waste like that.
Maybe they could try something like MAG later on, when there isn't too much risk, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Honestly, the last thing that the PS4 or gaming in general needs is another FPS series. They are great, I play them, but there is so much more that gaming can explore. FPS are a saturated genre IMO.
Certainly, Halo and Gears are a strength for MS, but Killzone has its place and even though it is not exclusive, the partnership with Destiny was a big win for PS4. I would prefer Sony to invest in other genres. For me, one of Sony's and the PS3/PS4's strengths is the greater variety.
