Topic: tell me about Playstation Rewards

What is it?  How does one get into it?  Thanks!

It's actually over now.

It was just a beta program to test a new format of rewards. Basically, there were 4 status: basic, select, pro, and legendary. By playing new games, buying games from psn, and finishes "quests" you could rank up.

Some of the quests were like "Play a PlayStation Move game", or "Read 10 emails from PlayStation".

Prizes for each rank were themes, avatars, and PS Home items.

The final email they sent out (right before I was about to hit legendary ) said that the program was ending March 31st and won't be released for a while dude to collected information (must not have worked well).

It was a really cool idea, but they didn't put much effort into it as it seems. There were only like 10 quests at a time (at most) and most were boring. It also didn't update in real time (sometimes taking a week or two to show completed updates).

HOPEFULLY when they release it, it gets a major improvement and a more deep rewards system (not just 4 ranks).

Yep, I was sitting right at Legendary myself. I thought the Rewards program was awesome. It gave a big incentive to keep on gaming on my PS3 for trophies to push up that Rewards bar. I'm missing it already!

This was only for Platstation Plus members, right?

It wasn't even just PlayStation Plus members. If I recall correctly, the individuals picked for the beta had to be 'dedicated fans' to get in the program. This probably just meant long time member, buys a lot of content in PSN, active on forums maybe, and psn+.

I liked the program a lot too. There were multiple times I was questioning weather or not to buy a game from the PSN and thought "well, it will increase my reward bar" and went ahead with the purchase.

I'm pretty sure trohpies had no effect on the rewards bar? Unless they were content specific quests like the "get 10 trophies in gt5". A lot of people were fighting for Sony to add trophies into the rewards programs, but Sony was firm on "trophies are incentive enough on their own".

There were two ways to get into the program, PlayStation Plus, or for being on a PlayStation Panel, but I can't remember the official name of it.

@nathan... trophies did indeed factor into the rewards program. A Platinum was worth a ton of points, and I know this because both times I obtained one in the program my bar would slide up like 25% or more.

Odd. I did a few checks with trophy level to see if anything changed over time but even going from 3% to 100% in Infamous, my reward level didn't change at all. Are you sure your level wasn't changing by PSN purchases? I know when I spent about $50 one Tuesday, I went up over 50% that week alone.

A: The PlayStation Rewards program is still currently in beta and will remain an evolving program post-launch. Currently, we have incorporated the use of trophies into the Quest system announced earlier this week. Quests tie into more than just games, giving PlayStation Rewards members opportunities to gain progress from all aspects of the PlayStation Network, such as PlayStation Home, original programming and more."

I know there was also a full thread about this with multiple replies from Sony reps explaining why trophies weren't part of the program.

Not sure though, Sony wasn't very clear in general about this program, nor did it update in real time to give solid results.

I would like to see them implement this for everyone soon, it sounds like something extra to play for.  For example in the previous post the quote from Ms. Panico refers to PlayStation Home.  Home currently just isn't part of my PS3 experience.  Now, I know it keeps growing and there are some decent things on it, yet it doesn't have a draw for me.  Having Quests and such draw me there might reveal all I'm missing from it and open up some new experiences that are fun that I might otherwise miss.
