Yes; I came here, too.

Recently, I was thinking on getting a PlayStation 3, myself. However, I would like a bit of help on which model would be the best fit to my needs.

  • I could barely care less about reverse compatibility... except a physical version of Final Fantasy XII that has sentimental value to me. (I emphasize: the physical copy of the game, not the game in the abstract, has the sentimental value.)
  • I would rather wait until the PlayStation 4 games gets populated with more games that I like before I would consider a purchase.
  • I would much rather get digital versions of the games rather than physical versions or streaming versions of the games. After all, I plan on getting a lot of games... though I also anticipate getting films and programmes through the service.
  • I couldn't care less about HD editions of games... In this case, I would be perfectly content with playing the PlayStation 3 version of Persona 5 instead of the PlayStation 4 version.
  • I also couldn't care less about online multiplayer.
  • However, price is an important factor to me.
  • I also fear quite largely the yellow light of death... something that affected the last PlayStation 3 I got.

Here... which version of the PlayStation 3 would be the best to me?

I am unsure of what the question is are you trying to decide between a PS3 and PS4? Or are you thinking of waiting until the 4.5 comes out? Yellow light of death only affected early PS3 models now issue with later models. Not heard of reliablity problems with PS4 apart from early controllers and the wearing our of the control pads. If you want lots of games and as you say not bothered about online play go for PS3. However you will not get any new releases. You can get super cheap games for PS3 so thats a bonus. Not sure though how much longer Sony will fully support the PS3 with software updates etc. I have both a PS3 and PS4 still play both but majority of the time is on PS4.

I amended my initial post.

I requested recommendations on a model of the PlayStation 3. (...regular? ...slim? ...super slim?)
Oh... I feel relieved that the Yellow Light of Death is not an issue regarding the later models.
...no new releases? Honestly, I acknowledge this. (After all, I bought an XBOX 360 this year when GameStop was leaving Puerto Rico.) Even so, there are already quite a few games that I want from the PlayStation 3 (including the upcoming Persona 5). I would just rather have the original console, given that the PlayStation 4 streams older games.

@MarkyVigoroth: Don't think any version of P5 is confirmed for NA/EU yet, as and when it is though I think it's unlikely the PS3 version will make it across..

I have the fat PS3 just because that was the only one out when I bought it. I also think it looks nicer than the other models they brought out later. The newer models have better power consumption so cost less to run. I would avoid the 4gb model as I am not sure what games you could even fit on the hard drive it plus it looks ugly. Also sign up for a North American Psn if you can they have some great flash sales and you can pick up cheap games. Enjoy your PS3 adventure so many good games

Personally, I'd recommend the newest 'slim' model (super slim?). Yes, the top loading bluray isn't as cool as the original/slim, but out of the 4 PS3 I've had, the bluray drive is always the first to go. I've never had the yellow light problems on any though. It's also quieter and smaller.

Since you plan to get mostly digital games, you're probably going to want to upgrade the harddrive no matter which model you get. last I checked, it's still cheaper to buy a low capacity PS3 and pop in a 1 or 2 tb hard drive rather than buy the higher capacity models.

The only PS3 I know of that suffered the YLOD was the original fat model - the one I had suffered this. They chnged the Chip inside on later models which seemed to fix the problem - not that it was as prolific as MS RROD (although this didn't affect mine). If you are going digital, then go for the slim model with the biggest HDD - I think 500GB was the biggest they did!!

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

What you did can be considered Necroposting since it doesn't add any value to this conversation what so ever. The last post was six months ago and if anyone thought it was relavant it wouldn't be a dead thread.
