Topic: Star Wars Battlefront II Arcade Mode Is Impossible

I just got battlefront II and noticed something really strange. In the arcade mode, you can make it so that you have to kill a certain number of ship to win. That's fine. But it's also impossible. If I set it at 50 ships need to be killed, I don't win. I killed a dozen or so ships...and that's it. All the ships are gone and no more appear. I found that I have to set it to 10 ships have to be killed to win, but the game is way too short that way.

Any ideas ?

@Spottedfeather Ah, nuts. I've just tested this out for myself and you're right. Starfighter Onslaught, Fondor Shipyards, playing as Boba Fett's Slave 1, and with enemy reinforcements set to 75. Whittled them down to 52 within a few minutes and then they simply stopped spawning. I ran out the clock to see if the blockage was only temporary, but all I could find whilst circling unmolested was a Y-Wing frozen way, way out-of-bounds. I reckon he must've been the culprit.

This was a known glitch when the starfighter modes were introduced to Arcade, and I believe it got fixed in a subsequent patch, but we've had several other patches since then, so I'm guessing one of them went back and broke it again. The problem is, Battlefront II no longer receives updates, so we're left with this glitch being part of the game's final, "finished" state.

Not sure whether the same thing happens during a Starfighter Team Battle (unless that was the mode you were playing) so you could tweak the settings to reduce your A.I. wingmates in both number and ability, whilst increasing the enemy team's stats, to make it more of a challenge?

@Spottedfeather that's rough, especially since the game is no longer updated. At least you have many other modes to play with. I still play a couple times a week for a few rounds of HvsV. Fingers crossed someone makes a battlefront 3.

@RogerRoger Yeah. I thought it was going to really suck, but I don't know which mode it is, but I found a very similar mode that seems to work just fine. I'm not near my PS4 at the moment, but I'll check later tonight to see and update my response here when I do. The ship sections of this game is what Squadrons SHOULD have been. Don't get me wrong. Squadrons looks just as amazing as Battlefront II, but the ship controls in that is just wonky...at least to me. In Battlefront, the steering seems much more natural.

Like Squadrons, the left stick can be used to perform rolling moves...but it's not necessary.

@Elodin A battlefront III would be great...if I could ever find a PS5 to play it on...

@Spottedfeather I love Squadrons for what it is, but I find I have to summon a little patience and be in the right mood for it, whereas I always seem to be in the mood for Battlefront II.

Hope that your experiment this evening works out, and that you can enjoy some lengthy dogfights!

@RogerRoger not sure of the exact name, maybe starfighter assault. It's not the onslaught mode. Starfighter Assault seems to work just fine and doesn't seem to be any different than onslaught.

@Spottedfeather Yeah, I was finally able to try out a Starfighter Team Battle earlier with maximum enemy count, and all was working well, so it must just be a glitch exclusive to Starfighter Onslaught. Glad you found a suitable alternative, and hope you enjoy your weekend blasting X-Wings!
