Topic: PS 4 to PS5

I currently have 2 PS4s (one at home and one at work) and I'm getting a PS5. I have a few questions:

1. From what I understand that many games have free upgrades to PS5. Since I have both consoles should I buy ps4 versions of games so I can play on both consoles?

2. Currently I notice I can save games from one PS4 at home and then pick up at work and play there. Does the same thing work with PS4 to PS5?

3. At home my set up is 1080p and not 4k (I have a home theater so it's a decent experience) would there be improvements in PS4 games even though it's not 4k?

@UNCMo96 Hi,

1. If you mean physical discs - I'd say in your case it's probably a good idea to get the PS4 version. Note that upgrading to the PS5 version means downloading the entire game from the store (rather than copying anything from the disc) but you'll still need to insert the disc to play it. Most importantly - double check that there's indeed a free upgrade.
In case of digital games, in most cases you always get both versions.

2. For PS4 games - yes.
Between a PS4 version and a PS5 version of a game - it's not that simple. Many (but not all) PS5 games will let you import your PS4 save. In some cases you'll have to explicitly export the save from the PS5 version's menu. In most cases you won't be able to do it the other way (from PS5 to PS4).

3. The most common improvement when playing PS4 games on PS5 (if there is any) is a higher frame rate and you'd still get that.
