Topic: PS4 to Pro - Transfer of digital games

Im thinking of upgrading from a Slim to a Pro now that people are trying to get rid of them because of upgrading to the PS5.

I hear that graphically I won’t benefit from a PS5 because my TV can only do 4k at 60hz. Thought I’d try and clear my backlog on a Pro with a bit of an upgrade on the graphics from a Slim.
Am I right in thinking this way?

Anyway, I have a 2TB HDD in my Slim which is around 80% full. What is the best way to have all my games on the Pro AND my 2TB HDD?

Am I able to copy the main games that I play to an external HDD, install the 2TB HDD in to the Pro and then transfer my games back to the HDD from the external?

Am I able to transfer my games to a MicroSD card using a USB adapter? So I’d fill up a couple of spare MicroSD cards I have and use them to transfer games to the Pro?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

I'm not sure you're using the word "graphically" in the correct context or sense of the word.

Of course you'll benefit from the PS5 graphically. It's a new generation console. Everything from here on in is going to look better. Plus, some standout PS4 games benefit now from faster loading and 4k60.

I assume when you say "graphically" you mean resolution. Which doesn't equal graphics. Yes the Pro is a 4k console, so games will look a bit crisper when compared to running on a base PS4. But graphically will be exactly the same.

It's strange that's your only prerequisite for a new console. It's not only the graphics - it's the faster loading, the quieter and cooler console, and future proofing yourself.

If you're thinking about upgrading to the 5 within a year or so I wouldn't even bother with the Pro. If you're waiting closer to 2 years or longer to make the jump then I guess the Pro is a good bridging console.

EDITED ORIGINAL ANSWER AS I WAS CONPLETELY WRONG LOL. THANKS @JohnnyShoulder

Hope this helps.

@TheIdleCritic

Thanks for the reply.

You’re right, should’ve said resolution instead of graphics.
Other reasons for not upgrading to the PS5 yet is because most of my backlog are PS4 games. I read that, the ps4 games get installed straight to the external HDD (will probably need one due to the size of the PS5 internal SSD) instead of the internal SSD, so they don’t really benefit from faster load times.
I’d rather also wait and see if issues arise with the current PS5 and if a slimmer one is announced.

Also, the Pro in the second hand market is around £120-150 which I don’t mind paying. I’d probably get most of that money back if I decide to sell my slim.

I have a few games that get an auto upgrade to the PS5 version, am I right in saying that the resolution would be the same if my TV can only do 4K at 60hz? I understand that they’d load faster but that’s not enough reason for me to upgrade at the mo.

@oYOUSERo @TheIdleCritic If one of the questions (I have to admit I am a bit confused by the questions and answers) is can you transfer games back and forth from a PS4 to a external drive, then the answer is yes. I do it all the time.

@JohnnyShoulder

Transfer to a different console? Is that possible.

Obviously it’ll be the same PSN account.

@oYOUSERo completely valid reasons not to get the 5 at the moment.

Yes, resolution will be the same in this instance.

If you can get a Pro for around that price then go for it! I sold mine a few weeks ago for £250 lol so I ended up paying very little for PS5.

@oYOUSERo PS4 games can be installed to either the internal or an external drive when using a PS5. You just need to make sure the relevant options are selected.

And yes, as long as you are signed in to your PSN profile, you can transfer games from the external to another console. On my dad's PS4 I have a profile which allows me to do this.
