After playing for 5-6 hours and turning off my PS4 it decides it wants to be on while I'm sleeping causing it to shut its self down improperly. Does any now why this happens and could it be my hard drive?

Thanks in advance

@quazy4 Most likely is you put it onto standby rather than properly powering down and then had a power cut in the night.

@Ryall No I shut it down when I go to sleep matter of fact when I opened this tread to read it it turned on.

Thanks in advance

@quazy4 I won't be of much help but I have some suggestions of what the problem might be.

First, is it the original PS4 with the smooth "touch" style buttons? I heard there were some issues with those sorts of buttons registering inputs without receiving inputs. I don't have that style of PS4 so I can't really help with it but a Google search might offer some fixes/workarounds.

If it's the second style of PS4 with the physical push style buttons on the front in the middle, there could be some dirt behind the button that's causing contact. Or there could be some dirt under the PS button on the controller which is causing the PS4 to turn on. If the console is out of warranty then it might be worth taking the case off the PS4 and the controller and just wiping any dirt away from the area behind those buttons. If you need liquid to clean it then use a small amount of isopropyl alcohol on an ear bud (Q-Tip) as it evaporates quickly and shouldn't damage the electronics.

Watch a YouTube video for instructions on how to take the case off, they're normally quite simple but I spilt a drink on my controller a while back and the DS4 was a ballache to take apart to clean. Especially in my half asleep state that had caused me to knock a drink over! We've come a long way from the two (or 4 including L+R) bits of plastic in the Super Nintendo controller!

Alternatively (and forgive me for suggesting this) but the controller might be in reach of you while you sleep and you may be knocking the PS button in your sleep causing it to turn on. Just a possible theory as I obviously don't know any more detail than what you've provided.

If it's a PS4 slim or a PS4 pro then I don't have any suggestions as I don't have either of those consoles.

Hopefully somebody else can help you with some more ideas. Might be worth clarifying what style of PS4 you have as other users with the same/similar model may be able to advise.

My final solution if none of the above works, and if it's not too much faff, is to unplug the plug from the socket on the wall/extension lead once you've shut it down (wait for the lights to go off and the fan to stop spinning). I'd do it from the plug rather than the figure 8 bit that goes into the console just to decrease wear on the console port from unplugging it every night.

@ralphdibny Cleaning worked great, I guess I will have to clean dust out every now and then.

Thanks in advance
