Topic: Hdmi switch ps4

My PS4 is mainly plugged into a TV. When the Mrs is watching TV and I want to use the PS4, I have to unplug the hdmi from the TV and plug it into the pc monitor so I can still use the PS4.

Sometimes the pc is using the monitor so I also have to unplug the pc hdmi from monitor before I plug the PS4 hdmi in.

I've just purchased a hdmi switch but I'm in a bit of a muddle on how i can set this up so I don't have to switch leads myself.

I'm thinking, if I put the monitor as the main output source of the switch and plug the pc and PS4 leads into the back I would only be able to switch between the pc and PS4 on the monitor but I want to be able to switch the PS4 between the TV and the monitor and also have the pc included when the PS4 is linked to the TV.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sorry if this reads confusingly but I'm confused myself and can't get my head around it for some reason.

I'm sorry this isn't a solution, but I'd be interested myself. I've only seen HDMI splitters that have one display output, and then you just switch between 3 or 4, or however many HDMI peripherals you have. I've never known a splitter to support multiple display outputs. If one exists I'd get it myself! Hopefully someone can help you.

@Adezzz76 @TheIdleCritic such an adapter does indeed exist as I own one! Unfortunately I can't link to the exact one as I asked my brother to order it for me using his Amazon prime membership so it doesn't show up in my order history. You just need to search 2 or multiple display HDMI switch and check the descriptions, they often have poorly translated diagrams that describe two monitors and one input. It is a switch though and not a splitter, you have to manually switch inputs with a button, it can't split the signal for simultaneous viewing on two displays.

@Adezzz76 what it sounds like you need is two adapters, one for multiple display and one for multiple input. (I can't remember if mine can be put in either way, I feel like it could work both ways so maybe could use two of the same adapter just inverted but don't quote me on that)

You want the PS4 going into the single input source on the multiple display adapter. One HDMi output from that adapter into the TV and the second HDMI output into the one of the input ports on the second Multiple source adapter.

Put your PC HDMI into the second input on the multiple source adapter. Finally put a HDMI from the output of that adapter into your monitor. Then you'll only have to press 2 buttons (one on each switch) to switch between TV and monitor instead of faffing with the cables.

Occasionally adapters can be a bit iffy, my multiple input one is not powered but works fine by itself whereas my multiple output one is powered. I can't really advise any more on that inparticular apart from sharing my experience.

The alternative is just using one adapter to put your PS4 to TV and monitor via HDMI and use a Display Port cable from your PC to the monitor if your monitor and PC supports it via the onboard or the graphics card if you have one. Then you can use the monitor controls to switch between inputs.

I believe there is a single device called a HDMI matrix that can do the work of both adapters but I've never used one so I can't give any advice on it!

@TheIdleCritic Easier but more painful.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
