Topic: External Hard Drive not detected by PS4

I was tryna play some Overwatch with my buddies after a new update but the minute I tried to start up the game my ps4 froze and completely crashed causing my external drive to stop working. I tried all the solutions as restarting ps4, rebuilding database, software updating, reinitializing my ps4 with the system software twice, and yet it doesn’t display on my ps4. Right now I’m trying another solution since I noticed my flash drive started being detected after trying for a whole day but my external still doesn’t work. I’m letting the power flow out and trying again. The external doesn’t detect on my PC and in device management it doesn’t let me interact with it without crashing the device manager. I’ve also bought a new drive and still doesn’t detect. What could I possibly do at this point?

New solution didn’t work, im stuck and debating to refund this storage for a new branded flash drive instead of a storage device....

Hi
Did you solve this? My boy was playing his PS4 this afternoon when it froze. When he got back on his external hard drive was not recognised. I’ve plugged into the Mac and a laptop and not showing up. Is there anyway I can get back any of his saved gameplay? Will his purchases be in his psn account? Any help appreciated as I’m not very techy and he’s a kid!
Thanks

@Mickysmum If your son has ps+ his saves will be backed to the cloud and his games are linked to his account not the console/external HDD so can be downloaded again.

This may sound simple, but have you tried plugging the external hdd back into the ps4? My external drive was not recognised earlier today, all I did was restart the console and it then recognised the drive and started to recover it. That took a couple of minutes but all was fine after that.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

Thanks Johnny for your reply. I have been trying since 5pm lol. Gonna try again in the morning but have come to the acceptance that his progress will be lost. We have restarted shut down etc numerous times. So if the HDD is not recognised in the end, will his purchases, levels and currency be available in dead by daylight for example? I’m sorry I don’t play the thing so no idea and for a 13 year old he hasn’t got a clue either just plays it and expects all to be well... thank you again for any help advice

@Mickysmum Sony have a record of what you’ve purchased on their servers. So you will be able to re-download everything as long as you log back in with the same account you made a purchase with originally.

As the save data. Assuming you’re not a PlayStation plus member your save data is stored on your PS4 is internal drive. So as long as that is still working you can re-download the games and still have access to your saved data.

Thanks, He does have ps plus, when he tries to play a game it’s asks you to connect the storage device or delete the game and install again. So, if his save data is on ps plus what’s the HDD storing? It’s 2tb and around half full. Is the HDD storing the games not the progress? Sorry if that’s sounds silly, but I’ve no clue, as you can tell 🙈🤷‍♀️
I’m gonna try and connect the HDD again tomorrow and if no joy then it seems I will have to delete all the games from his library and then reinstall the physical ones and re download the ones he purchased through Psn
God this stuff is annoying lol
Thanks for you reply

@Mickysmum Yes all the external hard drive was storing was the game installs. If it’s broken you need to delete and re-download the games. Don’t worry your save data is separate and so will not be affected.
