As is usually the case every year, March was a super busy month for new game releases. The PS5's schedule was pretty much packed from beginning to end, and there were some very heavy hitters in the mix.
One of 2026's most anticipated titles stole most of the headlines last month. We are, of course, referring to Crimson Desert, which has proven to be a massively popular open world outing. You'd be mad to think that it's not the frontrunner for this Game of the Month award.
But we've also got to mention Marathon, which offered a completely different proposition to Pearl Abyss' fantasy life sim. Bungie's hardcore, technical shooter hasn't done insane numbers, but it seems to be utterly beloved by those who've got stuck in.
Other March highlights included the largely fantastic Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, which we think is the best entry in Capcom's turn-based RPG series yet.
Then there's Screamer, a flashy arcade racer with a fairly unique emphasis on story and characters, and South of Midnight, the former Xbox console exclusive that's just a delight to behold.
That's some impressive variety, isn't it?
But before we dive into the actual vote, let's quickly recap all of our Game of the Month winners for 2026 so far:
- January 2026: Trails beyond the Horizon
- February 2026: Resident Evil Requiem
As always, you'll help decide which game joins them. Vote for your favourite PS5 title of March in our poll, and then explain your choice in the comments section below.
Voting closes on Monday the 6th April 2026, at 00:00 BST.

It’s clear that Crimson Desert will win this. But what I read so far about Marathon, it seems to be a real banger, excellently crafted, with great mechanics and a stunning art direction.
Let’s see how Crimson Desert and Marathon will be seen in two years.
One of the easiest GOTM votes I’ve ever done on PushSquare - Crimson Desert.
Voting for Life is Strange Reunion, even though I’ve not yet booted it. I just love the series and think it’ll be my favorite. I barely played anything in March.
Monster Hunter Stories 3 was quite good from what I played too. I’d like to try Crimson Desert too. Marathon wasn’t for me.
Also, I’ve got to say: Rubato seems to be a real winner in March too. I can’t believe how little coverage that game has received. It’s fantastic.
It would've been Marathon before I decided to ignore some of the mixed reviews and took a punt on Crimson Desert. Having a great time with it.
Really tough month. Fatal Frame 2 wants my vote, but it’s capped at a measly 30fps (and doesn’t even hold that). Crimson Desert has a lot of good going for it and is quite novel, but it has a fake physical release and the devs are already talking about bolting some trash multiplayer component onto it. Marathon has a killer visual aesthetic and excellent gunplay, but all you do is run around in circles getting shot at. No story, no single player adventuring to be had.
The rest of what’s here is mostly blah.
Voting a game of the month that push square says is in beta is kinda fulfilling. 😂
Marathon ofcourse ♥️
I may be the only one but I voted South of midnight. Bought it on Tuesday and I love it. Taking it slow and absorbing it all. It's just my sort of game
Marathon all the way! I do believe that it's the best multiplayer game we've ever had. Would love for them to fully resurrect the IP and make the current game just one part of a larger whole. I don't want them to add single player content to current Marathon, but a single-player game in the same universe would complement it very nicely. And they could even do the old Blizzard thing where when you play one, you get rewards in the other, to really encourage folks to dive in with both feet.
I didn't play anything new this month as I've been busy with RE9 in the first half of the month and continued from where I left months ago with Silksong in the second half. But if I had to vote I would go with Marathon from the sheer point of what I heard about it even though I won't play the game ever.
I am patiently waiting Replaced and Pragmata.I would like to play SuperMeatBoy3D sometime too since I like first 2 games.
Of course Crimson Desert, after 80 hours it’s already on my list for GOTY, no matter how many shallow 6/10 reviews say otherwise it’s such a great game.
@Balaam_ What trash multiplayer content are you even talking about? All they said is that they’ll look into DLC or MP mode depending on the player’s response.
You really are running out of “arguments” to hate on the game lmao
Crimson Desert. Having an absolute blast with the game. Im only in chapter 3 story wise, but 30 plus hours of just exploring and side quests.
The love for CD is great after the nonsense 6/10 review 😂
@Balaam_ There is a whole story and background within Marathon. You just want some of that OCD tickbox ***** 😀
It's between Monster Hunter Stories 3 or Marathon for me, but Im going to go with MHS3 though as it was a blast to play and vastly improved over the previous games, probably my game of the year so far.
Fatal frame 2 gets my vote.
If it was an option I'd have gone for Marvel Maximum Collection since that's the only one I bought.
@Max_the_German Or you could just enjoy the game you wanna enjoy instead of comparing the success of a single player ARPG to a multiplayer FPS for some reason.
@Max_the_German Marathon is great, but while Crimson Desert is selling like hot cupcakes, Marathon is strungling really badly. And in teo years time it could be that Marathon is left in dust and Bungie has moved on to another project. When you create niche Extraction shooter which is another level niche by beeing hardcore and PvP heavy, you have problem, when you are 3 billion dollar company.
Your posting makes me think you are hoping that in 2 years time Marathon would be more popular, which is very unlikely.
Voted for Crimson Desert. The world that Pearl Abyss has created is truly incredible. If they can address the many half-baked systems, it could be next level. If they can somehow add actual narrative depth to the critical path, it could be in RDR2 territory. As it stands for me, it’s a wickedly fun sandbox that goes to beat of its own drum but could just be so much more with some extra time in the oven.
@SleepyNick Wish more people had your mentality
Crimson Desert by far.
A nothingburger of an award, like all the rest! Congrats to whoever may win ❤️
Showing South of Midnight some love
@Oram77
How does 30 fps cap feel?
@Sanquine
I hope even if they won't do anything about campaing, they at least add something small with only PvE.
@Scottyy Like s*** lol
Marathon for me, great game
@Oram77
Thanks. Crazy to see it still.
Haven't bought anything this month - I might pick up Crimson Desert if they ever fix it, and maybe the LoK remaster.
I am happily still playing through RE Requiem and Nioh3 though, so no loss.
@Balaam_ there is a story that unfolds via the contracts and factions. Its quite obvious you haven't played it and are just forming your opinions on others and whatever negative YouTube videos you watch. Please play the game or just give it a rest.
@REALAIS I was one of those who made the loudest jokes about Marathon. But the substance of this game seems to be great and unique, a game which wants to be mastered, which I appreciate. And I think that people will see that and try it.
So, my prediction for a later success of Marathon is half wishful thinking, half believing in the sheer quality of this title.
Actually a tough decision for me because I love marathon but I'm really digging crimson desert too. So I picked marathon because it's so easy to jump into each evening with the guys from pushsquare I team up with who I must say are all top geezers and really cool.
Probably the last award Crimson Desert is going to win.
@Max_the_German it is not debate of quality of game, game seemingly is very good quality. It is debate if Sony will be happy with player amount and revenue it gets to sustain its development and running costs for whole company.
@Balaam_ 30fps, woof. Thanks for the report on that.
Can Requiem count for 2 months? I've played so little of anything lately - it's the only game that I beat in the month of March.
Well its obvious what ill be voting for , thats right...Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War, 'you wanna live forever' 😁
@Balaam_ theyve mentioned co op in a meeting they had, not full on multiplayer , they wouldnt be able to do that without losing graphical fidelity , so its a big fat no im afraid , besides they already have black desert for that.
@rusty82 brilliant game
