We may have just wrapped up our Game of the Year coverage for 2025, but there's still one little thing we've got to take care of before moving on to 2026 in full...
We are, of course, referring to Game of the Month. December's release schedule might have been overshadowed by all of the aforementioned Game of the Year discourse, but those last-gasp titles still deserve some time in the spotlight.
And so here we are, ready to determine our official Game of the Month for December 2025.
In truth, December rarely delivers in terms of exciting new games. That's mostly because big publishers drop their AAA titles ahead of the holidays, opting for October or November launches in order to maximise marketing potential.
And 2025's December wasn't much different, with a distinct lack of heavy hitters — but this meant that smaller games had a chance to shine.
The likes of Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Skate Story, and Terminator 2D: No Fate kept us busy (when we weren't obsessing over our backlogs).
Meanwhile, Octopath Traveler 0 blazed something of a different path for Square Enix's RPG series, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 finally made its trip to PS5, and Yakuza 0 Director's Cut gave us an excuse to play a classic Kiryu adventure again.
But before we get down to the all-important vote, let's quickly recap the Game of the Month winners from 2025:
- January: Ninja Gaiden 2 Black
- February: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
- March: Assassin's Creed Shadows
- April: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
- May: DOOM: The Dark Ages
- June: Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
- July: Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound
- August: Metal Gear Solid Delta
- September: Silent Hill F
- October: Ghost of Yotei
- November: Dispatch
Which December 2025 title will join them? That's for you to decide. Vote for Push Square's official Game of the Month in our poll, and then dare to explain your decision in the comments section below.
Voting closes on Thursday the 8th January 2026, at 00:00 BST.

Playing Yakuza 0 DC on Switch 2. I don't know that it's really worth the upgrade if you take away the portability factor, but I'm happy to finally be properly digging into this awesome game again (only completed up to ch. 3 when it first released on PS4).
I wanted to cast my vote for Octopath 0, but Square continues to rabidly push in every direction I despise as far as gaming is concerned. Terminator 2D is exactly what it should be and is not weighed down with corporate greed and incompetence. In many ways it’s the ideal plane of what all developers should strive to create when they make their own games.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion is meh. It is kinda like Streets of Rage Marvel style, but I can't help but think it's rigid and pared back.
Octopath Traveler 0 has been fantastic these past 57hrs. I actually had played alot of the mobile game a few years ago but the amount of new content they've added makes it feel like a new experience.
My vote went to Terminator 2d. Only one I've played to be fair but it was brilliant (way too short tho)
Skate Story for me
Love terminator 2d no fate, great to see so many highly rated 2d side scrollers of late. I picked up ninja gaiden ragebound over the Christmas period and was really enjoying until I couldn’t progress past 3-5! Checked online and apparently it’s a game breaking bug that can happen, gutted as I really enjoyed.
I voted for Cast ‘n Chill, but didn’t realize it wasn’t on PS5 yet, so I guess I voted for nothing.
Hope Terminator beats Marvel, but both games are about the same level of quality.
Sheesh tough month I'll go with Yakuza 0 even though I'm basing that on the PS4 version not the director's cut.
Both terminator 2d no fate and marvel cosmic invasion are amazing game.ferls like I'm back in the 1990s playing sega genesis games and arcade games Word up son
I voted for Yakuza 0. A fantastic game.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 - PS5 version. Runs flawlessly, looks beautiful, great controller UI, amazing game 🫀
I was originally interested in Octopath Traveler 0 until I learned it's the mobile game + content. Some reviews I saw said that visually it's a step back from OT2 since it's a "cheap" or "quick" port of that engine, which is disappointing. I just finished playing DQ1-2 and I imagine it would really not look that great comparatively.
I'm not yet played the game but i voted T2D. Not just it looks great but the devs put a little twist that added more replay value with the alternate timeline / what if scenario.
Funnily, i saw David Jaffe video title "Stop! Don't buy this Terminator game!" where he bought T2D, refund it, bought it again, doesn't reccomended the game without saying what's exactly the reason people shouldn't buy it, and then reccomended Neon Inferno and Iron Meat. The guy is really going senile 😔
C'mon Marvel, beat that stupid Terminator! 🤣
Terminator 2D for me, haven't played Cosmic Invasion yet as I am waiting on the physical release in a couple of months!
T2D was really good fun and I really enjoyed the alternative paths, would have liked a bit more Arnie but appreciate he was too expensive!
Great list for Game of the Months for 2025, twas a good year!
Kinda crazy how the retro pixelart games are leading the charts.
Developers should take note:
Gameplay > Graphics
