Platinum Trophy #21: Carto
Date Earned: 25th October 2020
Dopamine Index:
Carto is the sort of indie game that brings me a lot of joy; not only is it adorable to look at, it features a unique gameplay hook, and does just enough with it to make a fulfilling experience before rolling the credits. Job done.
Actually, I don't think I've seen a game do quite what Carto does before or since its release in late 2020.
For the uninitiated, this is a puzzle adventure in which you're able to rearrange the world you're exploring by using the in-game map.

It's not the easiest thing to explain, but by lining up matching borders, you both alter the map and the explorable environment, and this is the main way you solve puzzles and help out characters with their problems.
Looking back on the game, it still feels really novel. It's done in such an easy-to-understand way, helped by the really cute presentation that makes the whole thing feel like a children's storybook.
It's just such a wholesome little thing. The beginning sees your character separated from her grandmother, but the many people you meet and assist throughout the adventure are all eager to help you reunite. It's very sweet.
I remember thinking while I was reviewing Carto that I wished it lasted a little bit longer. It's only six-or-so hours, and I think there was probably more that could've been done with its world-shifting concept.
I really wanted to continue exploring the cosy little stages, meeting silly characters and solving unique puzzles. I guess it's no big surprise I ended up getting the platinum, then.
Having said that, it's not a particularly difficult or long-winded one to obtain. Like the rest of the game, Carto's Trophy list is pretty breezy.
The game's vibes are so warm and relaxing — it's the sort of thing that's perfect to play between bigger titles. I'd definitely recommend giving this a go if you haven't already — and hey, easy plat.
Cheers, Carto.
