Platinum Trophy #6: Everything
Date Earned: 24th December 2017
Dopamine Index:
You read that right, I have the platinum Trophy in Everything — mission accomplished!
Just a little joke there, at the top.
But yes, I do have the plat for Everything, the game, not everything, the everything.
The funny thing about this bizarre and brilliant game is that I can't possibly say anything about it that's better than what it says about itself.
This is a high concept experience about the universe we inhabit, and all the things, living or otherwise, that share it with us.
Remarkably, the game contains thousands of playable characters. Their movement and interactivity with the world is pretty limited, but the amount of ground covered in terms of animals, vegetables, minerals, and everything in between is seriously impressive.
Where else can you be playing as a pair of scissors one moment and a nebula the next?
While this sandbox experience could quickly become dull, I never felt that way about it. The way it gradually ramps up, allowing you to slip into higher planes of existence as you explore life's complexities, really captivated me.
And it's not just the simulation aspect of it; the philosophical musings of Alan Watts really bring the game together.
His narrations fade in frequently, and double down on Everything's existential themes, giving you some brilliant points of view on the matter you may never have considered before. And you do that while gathering a flock of houses and making them dance.
In fact, let me just drop in the incredible 10-minute gameplay trailer, which is essentially Everything in microcosm:
If you can't or won't play the game, this video tells you all you need to know.
In terms of the Trophies, I earned nearly all of them just playing naturally. The nature of their descriptions means exactly how you unlock them is mostly a mystery.
It reached a point where I only had one or two left to get before the platinum popped, so I do recall looking up how to snag them.
I would often boot up the game and just bathe in its ambience; I found it very relaxing and meditative to mess around in its world.
The platinum is a nice reminder of that time. I doubt I'll ever play another game quite like this one, so I'm pleased to have this in my imaginary Trophy cabinet.
Cheers, Everything.

Hmmm… 20 hrs time-to-plat. 🤔 We might be getting somewhere @Quintumply… don’t know where yet but it feels like progress 😉
What an interesting sounding game. Seems like a tech demo that outgrew its humble origins. Nice one!
I was under the impression that Everything sucked. Though I may have misunderstood.
Everything was such a strange game yet I was compelled enough to get the platinum about 6 years ago.
@sorteddan I know you meant the game, but what a beautiful line that is. It could be a line from an Indie romance
I love Everything, Alan Watts lectures, and Everything, Everywhere All at Once. So I approve of this article completely.
How have I not played this game? Well, I’m wishlisting this promptly. Looks like I need Everything in 2026.
I completely forgot this game existed. On the backlog list it goes, ta
This game looks right up my alley and is 80% off atm so I just bought it. Thanks!
I'm taking my 1 plat in Jak & Daxter to my grave. Usually I max out at around 50% anyway, 60% - maybe 80% if I'm really enjoying a game, but I doubt I'll get anywhere near a plat ever again.
@Quintumply I believe it’s Alan Watts not Alex Ward.
@rjejr I’m with you, I got the plat in Aegis Rim because it was so easy and got most very naturally and I did Astro Bot intentionally but that’s because I loved it so much. Other than that, I have games I’m so close to getting the plat for but I just don’t care, I’ve never been a trophy/achievement hunter.
@themightyant Of all the things to get wrong Fixed, thank you for that.
@Quintumply No worries, we’re all still rebooting into a new year!
I think I also platinumed Everything. It was an interesting idea, different to most other experiences especially with those thought provoking Alan Watts monologues. But also not quite enough game for my liking. Still a memorable experience.
