Blowing stuff up is fun, and Teardown gets that. Its varied voxel environments combine with nuanced physics and deformation systems to make levelling buildings, eviscerating vehicles, and orchestrating massive explosions a thrill. An inconsistent campaign and lack of multiplayer don't keep it from setting a new standard for video game destruction.

Tetris Effect (PS5)

Tetris Effect was great on PS4, but its PS5 version just takes things up a notch. Merging that classic falling block game with mesmerising visuals and entrancing music, it's an amazing experience that truly sings in 4K and HDR. We'd highly recommend playing it on your TV, but it's also brilliant in PSVR2. There's little sacrifice to picture quality, and the extra immersion you feel with the special effects swirling all around you is awesome. With so many modes to enjoy, this is the ultimate Tetris experience on PlayStation.

The Last Guardian (PS4)

From the team behind ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, you shouldn't overlook The Last Guardian. This third game in the loosely connected trilogy has just as much heart and impact as the others — not to mention one of the most technically impressive AI companions yet seen. Playing as a small boy, you and a large, mysterious creature called Trico must escape from a crumbling, enigmatic place full of dangers. The bond you'll form with Trico — who gradually learns to trust and listen to you more as the game goes on — is unlike any other in video games, leading to an incredibly emotional and touching adventure.

The Precinct (PS5)

The Precinct is an impressive sandbox romp. Fueled by a dynamic crime system that offers up hours of fun, bite-sized objectives, it's a very difficult game to put down. Every patrol is different, and although tedium does start to set in as the campaign approaches its conclusion, it's still easy to appreciate the intricate and tight design of this ode to old cop movies.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition (PS5)

Seven years later, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is still one of the absolute best RPGs around. This updated PS5 version only adds a little bit of new content in the form of costumes and a (actually fantastic) quest inspired by the Netflix series, but the visuals are better than ever thanks to improved assets, textures, lighting, and even a dedicated ray tracing mode. What's more, a number of small gameplay improvements really add up, resulting in the definitive edition of Geralt's generational adventure. If you've got the urge for yet another replay, then it's best done on PS5 with what is the best looking and best playing version of The Witcher 3.

Toem (PS5)

Toem takes the idea of a game about photography and twists it into something unique. Framed as a cutesy, top-down adventure game, you play as a young explorer on a pilgrimage to the mountaintop, snapping photos along the way. You can whip out your camera at any point, and the game swaps to first-person, giving you a new perspective on the black-and-white world. Helping out a colourful cast of characters, discovering all sorts of cool secrets, and solving imaginative puzzles mean this short but sweet indie game stands out.

Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered Starring Lara Croft (PS5)

Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered Starring Lara Croft is a lovingly crafted compilation which may set a new standard for PS1 re-releases moving forward. Based on the original source code, this trilogy flawlessly reframes three iconic PS1 puzzle platformers as you remember them – warts and all. While you will need patience to navigate this trilogy of globe-trotting escapades, the upgraded art style sticks closely to Core Design’s intended vision and it’s a genuine pleasure to experience these 90s classics on all-new hardware. It’s comprehensive, too, with each game’s expansion pack included – and an enormous list of Trophies to unlock.

Trails through Daybreak (PS5)

Trails through Daybreak marks the beginning of a brand new saga in Falcom's Trails series, taking players on a trip to the Republic of Calvard — a key location that's being fully explored for the first time in the franchise. Equipped with a more mature tone and darker story beats, Daybreak feels like a real step forward from past titles in terms of narrative stakes. What's more, a much improved engine allows Falcom to craft some of its biggest and best-looking environments to date, while a suite of gameplay adjustments — and key additions — make for a fantastic combat system. Daybreak is arguably the most 'standalone' Trails release yet, and as such, it's a recommended starting point for newcomers.

Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection (PS5)

A compilation including two of the PS4’s most beloved games was destined to be well-received, and while the absence of PS3 era adventures like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves prevents this from being definitive, it’s still an absolute must for thrill seekers. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End paints protagonist Nathan Drake as a weary buccaneer on one final score, while the even more refined Uncharted: The Lost Legacy – originally intended as DLC – acts as a kind of Greatest Hits album, with series stalwart Chloe Frazer serving as a superb step-in for Nate. Series creator Naughty Dog could have done more to upgrade these greats for the PS5 console, but there’s no question this collection is a must-play.

Venba (PS5)

Venba is a heartfelt narrative adventure about a family, and how they connect via the medium of food. To say much more would give away what makes the game special; it's the definition of short but sweet, combining cooking with a meaningful, earnest story about family and the challenges of life.

We Are OFK (PS5)

We Are OFK is an incredibly well-written game that stretches the boundaries of the medium. There's not a lot of traditional gameplay, but the characters are so well-realised and the writing so strong that even though there’s not much for you to do during each of the episodes, the act of being there and listening remains highly engaging. Between the strong art and soundtrack, there’s a lot to like, even if there’s not a lot to play.

Worms W.M.D (PS4)

Worms W.M.D is one of the better modern entries in the long-running series. It combines new, cartoonish visuals with turn-based action that feels just like the best-loved games of the past, like Worms Armageddon. While it includes all the classic weaponry and features you'd expect, it also adds crafting and vehicles like tanks and mechs, adding new layers to the time-tested gameplay.

Zero Escape: The Nonary Games (PS4)

Bringing together two beloved visual novels in one package, Zero Escape: The Nonary Games is an essential purchase — particularly for newcomers. You've got two excellent games that tell a wild and wonderful story that will stay with you for a very long time, and combine that with the engaging puzzles and you've got a recipe for a quality experience.
