It's Edgy Because There Are Snake Things Coming Out Of His Body.

Yeah, us too. We remember watching "To Kill A Mockingbird" with our polygonal girlfriend. Then it all went a bit weird and we had snakes coming out of our shoulders. Then it got even weirder, and we started walking around trenches, except the soldiers in them were all skeletons. Or something. Honestly, we can't remember much else.

We do know people have been pleading for a sequel for, like, years. Today 2K responded to their pleas, announcing The Darkness II for PlayStation 3. It's in development at Digital Extremes, with original studio Starbreeze not involved. What are those guys doing anyway? They've been quiet for a long time.

“The Darkness II is a well of dark and imaginative violence, and it’s a stylized and beautiful nightmare,” said 2K boss Christoph Hartmann.

“The Darkness II continues the 2K Games tradition of delivering quality, innovative games that are filled to the brim with atmosphere and deep storytelling.

“The game takes a unique stance on fighting in the dark versus light. Combined with the arsenal of weapons at Jackie’s disposal and the gruesome attacks of the supernatural Demon Arms and Darkness powers, we’re proud to announce another title that delivers on our core values of creating games for gamers.”

The game's PR buzzword is "quad-wielding", where you'll be able to “slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies” whilst using fire-arms. Cool. We guess.

If we sound a little, erm, passive it's because we don't really understand the hype. The first Darkness game was fine. Ish. We're sure the sequel will be good too. But if you're expecting us to run around in a hype induced frenzy, well, you'll have to wait until we've seen something genuinely exciting. As it stands, the name "The Darkness" just instills horrible memories of that awful Christmas song.

The game's due at the end of the year.
