Wow! Insomniac Games is making bank for Sony this generation so far. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, despite releasing exclusively on the supply constrained PlayStation 5, topped the US software charts in June – rounding out a great month for PlayStation. MLB The Show 21 held strong in fourth position, while Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales climbed a few spots, into ninth place.
Stock issues meant that the PS5 had to make way for the Nintendo Switch in hardware unit sales and Xbox Series X|S in hardware dollar sales, but all major platforms enjoyed double or triple dollar sales growth year-over-year, with overall industry spend up five per cent compared to June 2020. PS5 also remains the fastest-selling system ever in the US when it comes to hardware units.
As for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the sequel secured the “highest launch month dollar sales of any title in franchise history”, and more than doubled those set by its predecessor in 2016 – although it’s worth noting that the movie tie-in carried a reduced $40 price point, while Rift Apart retailed at Sony’s new $70 tier.
Scarlet Nexus also did incredibly well for itself, debuting in fifth position – another quiet success story for Bandai Namco following the likes of Code Vein. Last month's frontrunner, Resident Evil Village dropped a fair few places into sixth position, while Final Fantasy VII Remake enjoyed a significant boost in sales following its release on the PS5. Brilliant and well deserved.
This was my first R&C game and I loved every minute of it, the length was also very good for me, left you wanting more but that is much better than thinking it could have been trimmed down due to filler.
I will be buying the next instalment for sure!
Good to see Resi doing so well for the year too.
Read as made more money but not the best selling entry. I look forward to playing it one day when I get a PS5.
Loved R&C. Performance is also rock solid on PS5.
But even more happy for Scarlet Nexus. Good game, combat is fantastic. One of the better Anime action RPG I have played.
RE: Village still holding on to #2 in the best selling games of 2021 is also great news.
Good to hear. Hopefully guarantees more R&C games in the future!
Game of the Year. Just like every single PlayStation exclusive.
I'm glad as that game maybe be short on the gameplay side but it was extremely polished from start to finish. I enjoyed completing it twice and seeing what my PS5 hardware can do!
Super happy to see Scarlet Nexus up there. The more I play it, the more and more it impresses me. Haven't finished it yet but so far I'm really taken by it.
@WolfKingk87 Ya! Knack is the greatest game of all time
Congrats for insomniacs and bamco (scarlet nexus), with miles morales and ratchet ps5, now insomniacs is the best sony 1st party developers (sucker punch is 2nd and SSM is 3rd), can't wait for their next games
Also scarlet nexus is surprisingly good, I really enjoyed the ps5 demo and want to continue it after I finished playing 1 or 2 of my backlog games.
@wiiware No love for Naughty Dog?
@Rafie ND is dead last
@Korgon
I fist pumped when I saw it one the list. Based on the japan numbers I was worried we wouldn't get awesome games like this again, but thank god for the west saving this gem of a game.
@Korgon Right?!... I started playing both stories at the same time on 2 saves after rest #4. I did not want to miss any story points as I went.
And playing Luka's power is like being #5 in The Umbrella Academy. It is just so much fun to play.
@WolfKingk87 What if PlayStation release two exclusives in a year?
@AllenSnyder I’ve been trying tell people (elsewhere) that Scarlet Nexus was going to skew more West. Nice to see a great debut
Yeah but think of how much it could've sold if they compromised the experience and sold it on PS4 as well.
That was sarcasm.
This data supports my argument that of the 8 million people who will buy the next Horizon, almost all of them will also want to play it or will play it on PS5. Compromising it to work on the PS4 is a bummer.
Not mentioned here but Xbox consoles were the highest grossing month. Via your sister site:

Great to see all types of software from different genres selling well.
@ArcadeHeroes Correct.
@Enigk Then we have two Games of the Year.
@WolfKingk87 Of course, how foolish of me.
@Rafie Don't feed the troll, mate.
😉
And yet another blow to any hopes of seeing Sony abandon the $70 premium price point. I think the early data suggest it’s probably here to stay. Maybe as we get further along in the generation we’ll see price come down due to competition, but the gamers are hungry enough right now.
Got myself a PS5 this week and it was the first game i got for it, only played the opening but it was fantastic.
Love R&C Rift Apart, very happy to see it sell so well. Also great for Scarlet Nexus. I bought it but didn't start playing yet. Heard good things.
I ADORE the new R & C. I really hope Sony will reconsider their decision to make some of their upcoming PS5 games also work on the PS4. Sony...let your developers go wild with all of the capabilities of the new machine and you will be greatly rewarded as this chart shows!
