If you're still on the fence about Need for Speed Heat, a new gameplay video has arrived on the scene, courtesy of PlayStation Underground. This new footage shows off the first half an hour of the game, in which parts of the story are set up, and you engage in a handful of races. We're not sure if this is a good or a bad thing, but the cheesy dialogue you might expect is present and correct.
Interestingly, developer Ghost Games explains that players can choose to engage with the story side of things as much or as little as they want. After the introductory section, you're more or less free to roam Palm City however you choose. You'll even be able to take one car all the way to the end of the game by swapping in new engines and other performance boosts, if you like. It sounds like you'll have plenty of choice in how you play Heat, which can't be a bad thing.
Need for Speed Heat is out in just under a week on 8th November. Will you be drifting towards this arcade racer? Customise your ride in the comments below.

I’m still waiting for the “catch” and then them saying gasp “We never thought players wouldn’t like that mechanic. But you can pay $$$ for 1,000,000 Heat Bucks and repair/upgrade/etc. for your car.”
I’ll wait for reviews and then the eventual $20 sale.
I'd rather not if it's all the same to you. 👍😉
Have to admit that this does look good. Just worried about micro transactions and if EA have learned any lessons from previous games (probably not). When does the review embargo lift?
Renting it for the nephew. Looks like something he'd like.
It is at 30 fps again. I will pass. Thanks.
why are the streets so empty when your driving around?? I miss midnight club....
Looks very meh.. to me.
How's GRID 2019 anyone? is it worth getting at the current price cut?
@notdead
From what I’ve seen and heard it’s not worth getting until around the £20 price point, the way it’s going that won’t be long...
I might get this eventually, but theres no way I'm paying 60euro for a NFS game at launch. I won't get enough enjoyment out of it to warrant that price and also the looming microtransaction hell that might put me off buying the game alltogether.
I did like the NFS reboot by Ghost Games more than the Criterion ones before. The driving felt a bit more grounded, you had to actually use the brakes every now and then.. the driving model was just a bit... unpredictable?
By the way I usually play NFS games only untill about 2 third of completion before the cars get too fast and it loses all plausability to me. Anyone else has the same thing?
Sounds like an NFS game . Looks like a NFS game. Looks like it handles like a NFS game. Unfortunately for NFS, that hasn't been its strong suit since Carbon. They should release a demo/trial as for most that's all they need.
I also miss Midnight Club but found it frustratingly hard at times and hated the collision detection. So far I think R* is right in not doing another. No one will buy it at full price and a budget version would be disappointing as well.
