Sony must be pretty pleased with the sales performance of Days Gone. Bend Studio's survival horror open world appears to have resonated well with a lot of PlayStation 4 fans, as it's doing well in various territories. In the UK, it's now topped the weekly physical chart for the third time in a row.
In fact, it's not the only game that's held its position; the top 10 is almost unchanged from last week due to a lack of key releases. The Division 2 has moved up one place, but there's almost no movement among the rest of the best sellers. You still have your Mortal Kombat 11, FIFA 19, and Red Dead Redemption 2 gunning for top positions. This week sees the arrival of A Plague Tale: Innocence and RAGE 2, which will hopefully shake things up.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 11th May, 2019
- Days Gone
- Mortal Kombat 11
- FIFA 19
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- The Division 2
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
- Forza Horizon 4
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Reviews got it wrong.
"Don't believe the lies."
Tired of zombies.
Proof that games don't need to be original. (Originality was never a selling point for me)
Also proof that most reviews where either out of touch or poorly set up.
Also no zombie fatique all of a sudden. (There never was)
Days Gone keeps slaying!
Good to see. Iโm hoping to start the game today.
I should go back and play it, but I know I'm going to have to look for gas as soon as I start it up.
Ugh.
Very interesting. Clearly review scores don't influence sales as much as I assumed.
Plus, most people are enjoying the game so that helps.
Normally I see games dropping in price a little shortly after launch yet this I only ever see at full price. Some reviewers need to have a look at themselves as they have this one badly wrong, whilst most of any potential criticisms can literally be labelled at every open world game on the market. Then there was zombie fatigue? First what does that even mean and second where are all of these great zombie games over the years that have made me fatigued? The 2 best games I've played this year are zombie games, this and Resident Evil 2, long may they continue ๐
How does it stack up to the rest of the exclusives in terms of time at No 1?
n.i.c.e. days are gone but it's still the number one game .no doubt playa.now bend studio will give me a syphon filter remaster.we already got crash.spyro.medevil. now give me syphon filter and parasite Eve remastered.and we will have the ps1 games I want to return back from the graves.hahah.word up son
@carlos82 Well, sales =/= good reviews. There are plenty of terrible games that sell millions, and plenty of good games that don't sell at all.
As for the reviews; I don't think they're that far off. Days Gone sits at a 72 on Metacritic. The game is enjoyable for sure, but I can't ignore the lack of polish and glitches either. It has its problems for sure. Still, that doesn't mean it won't sell.
And yeah, ''zombie fatigue'' was always a stupid thing.
Iโm happy for bend, canโt wait for days gone 2 or maybe updated days gone 1 for ps5
this game is great ever i played and got platinum trophy. i give this is 9/10. i hate stamina when i was running and chased by Hordes.. ughh
Whilst i think it benefits from a lull in the release schedule (reflected by fact not much movement this week), i do think its testament to the fact gamers want fun experiences. Not everything needs to be original. Sometimes you want that cosy pair of slippers to put on and enjoy a well crafted experience.
I am delighted for Bend. I think they needed this one to be a hit. They will learn from the negative feedback and will be able to implement things differently next time around.
I am looking forward to trying this when i finally pick it up. Still working on that backlog for now - finished inside last night (enjoyable, bit found the ending and secret endings pretentious); now onto Modern Warfare Remastered and Hellblade: Senuas Sacrifice
@Octane I don't think many were far off in terms of scores, personally I'd score it a bit higher but the context of many of the reviews I read were way off the mark. I'd say it's as least as good as most of the other open world games I've played over the last few years, whilst almost every criticism I've seen labelled at this can be attributed to pretty much every other open world game over the last few years.
I've had a lot of fun with it so far and the game looks great, runs smoothly (apart from a streaming hiccup when travelling at speed, which is likely just a hardware limitation) and the only glitch I've encountered in my 15 hours or so has been Deacon teleporting on top a rock instead of disarming a bear trap.
I will say that stamina bars in games can just f**k off
Someone pointed out on another site that COD isn't even in the top 20, which in previous years was pretty much a permanent fixture in the top 5.
Maybe being a free game people are Playing Apex Legends Battle Royale instead of buying COD. Also the lack of single player seems to have had more of an effect than first thought.
Like its as if scores are useless for most gamers, you know.
@carlos82 Weird, I've had items glitch all over the place, weird physics and stuff. Sound not playing; and I had to restart the game, apparently it's a problem with a custom exhaust pipe or something like that. The HUD looks like it's thrown together last minute, the menu on the other hand looks really good though.
@Splat God damn it copeland!
@jdv95
DG is original though imho. I feel people have been told so many times its generic they end up taking that on board as some sort of fact.
Agree with everything else you said
@Octane I didn't start playing until patch 1.06 which may account for some of my smoother ride and I've read about that exhaust glitch but I think that was patched before I got that far. I agree about the HUD which isn't great and I'm not that keen on the menu's which are rather bright on my HDR screen
@Octane
Review are very polarised on DG.
Average of polarised review is actually very wrong and a good example of whats wrong with metacritics. They always give 'opinion' as an excuse to lap up anything but translate an opinion into a score and then used the data for metascore and its just non sense. You can t say meta has one opinion. Theres contradiction.
Well deserved for Bend, its a really good game and better to play than a simple description might sound. Its an open world where I dont want to fast travel, as things normally occur on the journey and the environment is so well realised. I still think the review here is fair, but probably my favourite of the the recent big 1st party games to play.
In my store, no matter how good a game is there would be atleast 1 or 2 copies traded in within a week... But after 2 and a half weeks not a single person has traded in Days Gone and it sold like gang busters.
All is as it should be.
Still playing it, still loving it.
Ye I think some Freakers reviewed this. Saint John out. ๐
@carlos82...stamina bars indeed...this guyโs even more unfit than Alan Wake...I didnโt even think that was possible.
Great game though!!
@Rob_230 I think Sony was shrewd to move the release date for quieter time, allowing for Days Gone to be on top of the selling charts.
I saw in Gematsu that Days Gone repeated #1 spot for a second week in Japan.
People still salty about the reviews... time to get over that, just enjoy the game.
Still playing the game myself, although the further end of the game feels like the writing drops off a bit. Still a solid experience though. Glad to see it's doing well. I think it still needs a few more patches but it's a good game overall.
@Constable_What upgrade your bike tank at the mechanic's stations....
@Octane the game has amazing polish!... Look at the detail in the environments, or on the characters... Down to the stitching and the facial hair!... No offence, but you have no clue about making games, or what 'polish' means... Character models are pretty much 2nd to LOU and RDR2... And maybe HZD and GOW. Amazing polish, stop being guided by reviewers that didn't get the game they thought was coming, and enjoy it for what it is!... Deacon out!... And for your information, Deacon is the main character... If you have even played it!...
@Toner1984 I am currently playing the game; and no I haven't read a review. I quickly glanced the review here on PS, but that's about it.
I personally don't think it's on the same level as Uncharted of God of War. Last of Us is a last gen game, so yeah, moot point
Never played RDR2, but I didn't get the hype either. Game looked fine, gameplay looked like a chore.
And just FYI, I don't think any of that is a bad thing. I just don't think it's on a GOW level for me. It's the game equivalent of comfort food. A solid 7/10.
@Toner1984
Duh! Still need gas! Hahaha
The fact that you can't progress missions because of arbitrary factors such as "Need gas" is all kinds of butt. I really only want to smash dudes in the face with my bat axe, but the game won't let me, so I will play Yakuza for the time being.
That's poor game design. I'll get to when I get to it, or I won't enjoy it.
@Octane
Totally agree on RDR2! I loved that game's story and missions, but gameplay-wise... Holy **** that game is boring. It's impressive for sure. Incredibly impressive, but the open world pacing is essentially a chore.
@Constable_What A preference in gameplay doesnt mean something else is bad gamedesign. ๐
@Flaming_Kaiser
I'm not talking about gameplay. I'm talking about a game mechanic that disrupts gameplay.
That's bad design. If you choose to ignore it that's your preference, but it's still objectively bad.
To clarify, I'm specifically talking about Bounty Hunter missions... You cannot even start the chase if you're below half a tank of gas. You get a message near the start of it that tells you need gas, and you can't continue.
That's terrible. Let me just attempt it with half a tank, how does Deacon know he doesn't have enough gas? Is it the game breaking the fourth wall and baby guarding me from failure?
How the hell is there still gas in this world to begin with? Gasoline only lasts around 9 months even in a sealed tank. Are they making gas...and then putting it in gas stations?
That's why that mechanic sucks. It doesn't even make sense, and it just impedes progress until you fill up an arbitrary gauge on your bike just because the game says so.
