Following on from its official release date announcement last week, Dauntless is set to launch on PlayStation 4 today (that's the 21st May, if you're reading this at a later date). In a lot of ways, the game's similar to Monster Hunter. You create your own character, head out on hunts, bring down a few hulking beasts, and then use bits and pieces to craft better weapons and armour. Of course, the key difference is that Dauntless is free-to-play.

What's more, Dauntless will boast full cross-play functionality across PS4, Xbox, and PC. This means that you'll be able to play with users on different platforms, and even carry over your progress should you switch to a different device.

"When we first started talking about ‘One Dauntless,’ we knew it was a truly audacious goal. No one has ever launched on console with full cross-play support from the start, but we believed in our vision and, thankfully, our friends at Epic Games, Sony, and Microsoft did too," the game's press release reads.
