PlayStation VR has been going strong for a couple of years now, and it’s amassed a surprisingly impressive selection of software in that time. Of course, with new fans entering the virtual reality realm for the first time every single day, we figured that we’d compile a list of the best PSVR games to date. These are all must-own experiences, and they span the headset’s full spectrum of experiences, from epic blockbusters right the way through to smaller indie adventures.

20. Tiny Trax (PS4)

Publisher: FuturLab / Developer: FuturLab
Release Date: 25th Jul 2017 (USA) / 25th Jul 2017 (UK/EU)

Brighton-based developer FuturLab knows how to make a great feeling game, and Tiny Trax’s Scalextric-inspired slot racing is no exception. The game sees you seated stationary in the centre of some increasingly complicated tracks, and it’s up to you to follow the direction of your vehicle, as it skids and slides around hairpin bends. A clever drift mechanic adds depth to an otherwise simplistic affair, and while it’s relatively light on content, mastering its courses will require practice and precision.

19. Firewall Zero Hour (PS4)

Firewall Zero Hour (PS4)Firewall Zero Hour (PS4)
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment / Developer: First Contact Entertainment
Release Date: 28th Aug 2018 (USA) / 28th Aug 2018 (UK/EU)

Comfortably the best online shooter for PSVR, Firewall Zero Hour wears its Rainbow Six: Siege influences on its urban camo sleeve – but while its tense tactical gameplay may be familiar, its use of the PSVR Aim Controller makes it a much more personal experience. The game would benefit from longer matches and there’s always room for more maps, but assuming it can establish a strong community, it’ll have you checking your corners in virtual reality for months to come.

18. 2MD VR Football (PS4)

2MD VR Football (PS4)2MD VR Football (PS4)
Publisher: Truant Pixel / Developer: Truant Pixel
Release Date: 8th May 2018 (USA) / 8th May 2018 (UK/EU)

Maybe not the most obvious addition, but 2MD VR Football’s arcade quarterback action really works well with PSVR. The throwing mechanic is outrageously accurate, allowing you to hoof Hail Marys downfield like you’re Aaron Rodgers after he’s eaten his Weetabix. The arcade format means that the novelty does have a shelf-life, but the fact that you can even create your own plays makes this a worthy inclusion on our list.

17. Until Dawn: Rush of Blood (PS4)

Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment / Developer: Supermassive Games
Release Date: 13th Oct 2016 (USA) / 13th Oct 2016 (UK/EU)

Every console accessory requires a rails shooter, and while there was reasonable concern that Until Dawn: Rush of Blood would undo all of Supermassive Games’ superb work in its narrative driven teen thriller, this is actually an entertaining accompaniment. Set up like a fairground ride, the dual-wielding gunplay is really entertaining, while there are some great set-piece jump scares here that will have your heart racing.

16. Farpoint (PS4)

Farpoint (PS4)Farpoint (PS4)
Publisher: Sony Computer Entertainment / Developer: Impulse Gear
Release Date: 16th May 2017 (USA) / 17th May 2017 (UK/EU)

On a standard screen with an “ordinary” pad, Farpoint would be forgettable at best – but it’s elevated by virtual reality and PSVR Aim Controller support. Physically looking down the barrel of a weapon replicated in 3D space never gets old, and while the campaign is generally quite linear and lacking in variety, there’s a surprisingly solid sci-fi story here that will push you through to the action-packed conclusion. Meanwhile, additional arcade and online challenges add longevity to the experience, making this a must-own.
