Papo & Yo Tackles An Extremely Heavy Concept With Colourful Consequences.

Papo & Yo, developed under SCEA's Pub Fund programme, is an intriguing PlayStation Network title created by Minority.

The game tells the story of Quico, a young boy living in a South American slum. He is befriended by Monster, a kindly beast that loves Quico but is also addicted to frogs. When Monster eats frogs, he is transformed into an "evil killing machine, his fury pushing him to destroy everything that is around him — including Quico". Quico must therefore find a way to cure his best friend.

The concept sounds bizarre on its own, but it all makes sense when you learn the metaphor behind it.

"The tale told in Papo & Yo is about myself and my father, a good man but also an evil one," explained creative director Vander Caballero. "Like many, he used alcohol and drugs to cope with a challenging life, and I was caught in the middle of it. The emotional core of this game is ultimately a fable about my relationship with my father."

The game will be showcased at this year's E3. Check out the trailer after the jump to see how Minority's turned such a heavy subject into a relatively cheery, vibrant adventure.

Games like this are what make us PlayStation fans, and we cannot wait to see more of it in action.
