The Playstation Eye Will Play An Integral Role In Sony's Motion Controller Technology.

In an interview with Eurogamer, the Playstation Motion Controller's developers Kish Hirani and Paul Holman discuss the technology and its future. When asked how much better than the Wii Remote the technology is, Paul responded:

"It's another generation forward, or even a couple of generations. I know in certain games or applications which are out there, people had to sort of fluff it to make it real for consumers. But this stuff is super-accurate and the impact of that is incredible. I think you have to play with it to realise what it will do to games."</blockquote>

Kish emphasised:
[quote]
"What I personally love is to be able to write your name. Grab a mouse and write your name; it's difficult. The mouse uses very old motion-tracking technology, and to be able to write your name on the screen - that's the precision you're getting. You've physically got a chalk in your hand, you're in front of the blackboard and you're writing. That's the level of precision involved."</blockquote>

Paul also discussed the use of the camera while playing games, specifically that the images coming from the camera can be "super-imposed" into the game taking the industry into "new spaces".

Reading the interview you get the impression that Sony are very excited about the possibilities of the new technology. They cite the use of camera technology with the precise controls as a reason for the Playstation Motion Controller being the better option than both Natal and the Wii remote - simply because it combines elements of both and perfects them. Paul was also quick to remind everyone that the EyeToy was the "first abandonment of the controller" - not Project Natal.

Still, when asked how many games were in development for the new controller Paul answered:
[quote]
" To be honest, I don't know."</blockquote>

Surely a worrying response from someone who is supposed to be so heavily involved in the Motion Controller's development.
