If they don't want to make Playstation games, at least their honest about it. In the case of Splinter Cell: Conviction though, it's all about money, money, money. We don't really blame Ubisoft for taking Microsoft's cash - hey, their money is as good as anybodies - however we do cite a serious flaw in Microsoft's philosophy. While Sony are working their absolute asses off in building new franchises, developing their existing ones and genuinely creating a personality for their platform - Microsoft are paying for exclusives. The results are the same, but to us, Microsoft's philosophy is extremely shady.
Ubisoft's Steven Masters recently discussed the reason for Splinter Cell: Conviction's exclusivity over at Kikizo.

Ubisoft as a company now has a lot of experience with PS3. Our processes, tools, techniques are very well-developed - we could absolutely execute on the PS3 if we had the opportunity, but like I said it was a business decision.</blockquote>
The key phrase is "if we had the opportunity". We'd love to know how much Microsoft are paying them.
