A game engine is the heart and soul of a game. How’s it’s built and how well it runs. It’s a loop that cycles through at the power of your system. It loads all assets, takes the user input to send events to the programs to make you walk etc, animates, triggers sounds, parses all the gfx and physics, and that’s just the start 😂. The trick for the devs is to make it run at its optimum frames per second for every device. These days that’s anything from 60fps to 120, and at least a steady 30 fps for last gen.
Unreal 5 has been a huge step forward, and yep most companies are now dropping their proprietary engines for it. The success of this engine is definitely an interesting alternative and I’d love to see a side by side comparison of native features and how easy it is to adapt new ones.

@uptownsoul Yep. CD Projekt red, are ditching the Red Engine, and replacing the new Witcher games, and next Cyberpunk with Unreal 5.
Re: These Are the Franchises PS5, PS4 May Lose to Activision Blizzard Buyout
Activision Blizzard is on there way out after all the harassment scandals.
Only sad thing here is Sekiro, but they only publish so that's easily changed.
